Funding to support NSW artists and NSW arts and cultural organisations
Funding is available: for organisations and individuals for all artforms across all of NSW
Competitive application-based process 2013 program is for activity taking place
between January -December 2013.

There are a number of types of funding:

ELIGIBILITY
Organisations must be legally constituted and: A not for profit incorporated body A co-operative or trust A local government authority
Applications can be made by a group of organisations / artists working together

AUSPICING
Auspicing – when an eligible organisation takes responsibility for managing the grant funds on behalf of someone else.
Auspicor – the incorporated organisation taking responsibility for the funds.
Auspicee – the person or organisation receiving the benefit of the funding which is being managed by the auspicor.

ANNUAL
Albury Library / MuseumContribution to an annual program - acquiring, documenting, displaying and interpreting the social and material culture of the Albury Wodonga region.
The program is extended by a varied touring exhibition and interpretive schedule that encourages participation and life-long learning.
MULTI-YEAR FUNDING
Museum of the Riverina3 year funding for their annual program of activities
The Museum will develop and implement a multi-disciplined approach to the contemporary interpretation and presentation of Australian history in a regional cultural heritage context. The Museum will deliver exhibitions, education, public programs and sector outreach services.

CREATION AND/OR PRESENTATION
Lady Denman Heritage Centre
An exhibition, ‘Canberra, South Coast NSW and Henry Halloran: 100 years of urban ideas` using rarely seen maps, plans, correspondence and old photographs to show how pioneering business man Henry Halloran used the creation of Canberra to promote new forms of urban development.
CAPITAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Gwydir Shire Council for the Roxy Museum
Situated within the Roxy complex, the Roxy Museum will celebrate the legacy of Greek settlement in rural Australia, with a focus on NSW and Queensland. Staff will conduct research and develop collections that document Bingara`s history in a national and international context.
CONNECTED ARTS
Lake Macquarie City Gallery
Educational program as part of the `Wrapped in a Possum Skin by the Lake` project for Aboriginal students in the Hunter region to participate in artists in schools sessions on the history of cloak making in the area, lessons in using ochres, designing a cloak and production of an education resource for use by schools and community groups
QUICK RESPONSE
Susan Cairns, Newcastle for participation in 'Making Museums Work' conference in Atlanta
The 39th annual conference will bring together hundreds of museum professionals to explore the latest advances in museum technology. This conference panel asks: What's the point of museum websites? Five panellists will each examine the meaning of online collections, issues of trust and authority, and how to establish meaning and purpose in a highly networked world. The discussion will help cultural heritage organisations develop a vibrant and accessible environment to improve long-term industry capacity and sustainability.

Aims to improve support for NSW Aboriginal artists and arts

Applications for funding with an Aboriginal arts and cultural
focus must meet the objectives of the strategy:

ABORIGINAL REGIONAL ARTS FUND
Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance Aboriginal Corporation
the Burrin Makurr Weaving Workshop
A weaving workshop to be held at the Saltwater Freshwater Festival 2012 in Taree where participants will be taught by Boolarng Nangamai senior weavers and local Aboriginal weavers to coil using local materials. The pieces created will be woven together to form a large 3 metre fish trap over the course of the day.

All applications are assessed against 5 criteria:
1. Merit
2. Audience development & participation
3. Benefits
4. Capacity
5. Budget
Each criteria is equally weighted.

1. Applications submitted

4. Final scoring and funding recommendations
5. Recommendations go to Minister for
approval
6. Applicants receive advice
Assessment panels
Who assesses your application?
Funding applications are assessed by a panel consisting of independent peers with appropriate industry expertise
Peers are people with a professional association with the arts or a specific artform who have the knowledge and/or experience to make a fair and informed assessment of a funding application
Applications are not assessed by artform
ROLE OF ARTS NSW STAFF
Providing advice to potential applicants on:
• interpreting the guidelines
• types of activities relevant to each
category
Providing advice to assessment panels
WRITING APPLICATIONS
Never assume an assessment panel knows you or your
work
Always use plain English
Give as much detail as possible
Provide appropriate support material
Test the online application form before you start and save
as you go
Check the closing date
Talk to the funding staff
Make sure you apply!
BUDGETS
Ensure your budget is correct, is balanced and reflects the
activity
Ensure your budget is realistic
Show all funding from any other sources – including in-kind
Payment of fees and salaries to artists and employees
should be consistent with industry standards
Budgets should be commensurate with the type and scale
of the program
Give as much detail as possible – don’t use ‘other’ as a
descriptor
Always provide explanatory notes to the budget
