Workshop objective
The main objective of the workshop is to enhance the
capability of participants in writing publishable
manuscripts in first-class scientific journals and to
increase their knowledge and understanding of the
processes of scholarly publishing.
Outcome
The participants will have a clear understanding of the
essentials of preparing manuscripts for publication in
high-quality research journals.
Topics
Key focus topics of the workshop include:
• Understanding the game of publication.
• Deciding on when to start writing.
• Why, what & where do we publish.
• Structure of the research paper (The “IMRaD”
Structure).
• How to present data effectively in Table or Graph.
• How to select & cite references.
• How to write the first draft.
• How to select the right journal.
• How to submit a manuscript.
• Dealing with reviewers & Editors’ comments.
• How to handle criticism.
• How to check gallery proofs.
• Understanding the game of journal Impact factor
(JIF).
• What is the difference between h-index & journal
impact factor.
• How to determine Citation Counts for your article.
• Ethics in publications.
Workshop Format
The workshop will include presentations and hands-on sessions.
Language The language of the workshop is English.
Targeted Audience:
The workshop is open to lecturers, postgraduate
students, Engineers, and researchers.
Workshop Fee: Covers hard copy of course material, refreshment
including lunch and Certificate of Attendance.

Speaker
PROFESSOR DR. BASSIM H. HAMEED
Professor Dr. Bassim H. Hameed received his Ph.D.
in Chem. Eng. from University of Salford, UK, in
1992. He is a Professor at School of Chemical
Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia. His research
interest is Reaction Engineering and Adsorption
Technology. To date, he has published more than
170 articles in ISI-indexed journals and other 100
articles in International and national journals and
proceedings. According to Scopus, Prof. Bassim’s
publications have been cited over 6,000 times, with
13 having been cited more than 100 times each, and
he has an author h-index of 45 and i 10-index of
110. According to the report of MOHE, Malaysian
Citation Centre, 2012, Prof. Bassim is the top cited
Malaysian-based author in Engineering, 2001-2010
with average citations per publication of 27.26.
According to a recent Science Direct report, more
than 15 of his articles were among the Top 25
Hottest Articles accessed in 2007-2012. Currently he
serves as a reviewer for many international journals
published by prestigious publishers such as Elsevier,
Wiley, American Chemical Society, Springer and
Taylor & Francis. He has reviewed more than 550
manuscripts. He is a recipient of three Sanggar
Sanjung (Hall of Fame) awards for Research
Product in 2003 and 2004 and USM Excellent
Achievement Award in 2007 and 2011. In addition,
he was a recipient of Sanggar Sanjung Awards in
2007-2012 for Excellence in Publication in top ISI-
indexed journals. Prof. Bassim has conducted more
than 30 workshops on writing publishable scientific
manuscript for university lecturers, postgraduate
students, and researchers.

3. Cancellation / Substitution A full refund less administration fee of MYR250.00 will be given for cancellation received not later than 10 working days before the event. No refund will be made after this period. However, substitute participants are welcomed at no extra charge provided written notice of at least 5 working days before the event is given to the Organizer.
