Something about the director:

• Ken Loach was born in 1936 in Nuneaton

(Warwichshire, England ) and has devoted his life to what we call “social cinema”, that is to say, his films talk about society, people and their problems; and he is very critical with the situation of many unknown people who live their own personal dramas.

Nothing to do with us apparently …

There is something which makes him very close to the people from Teruel.

What is it? Would you like a clue? It is something related to our

history. Can you guess?

Page 4: The angels’ share

Yes, the answer is that “Tierra y Libertad”(1995) was partly filmed in our territory, Teruel. It talked about the Spanish civil war and even more, one of the extras for a sequence of this film was a member of the school staff.

Who is it? The clue is again history.

Don’t forget that our film is The angels’ share

Can you translate the title into Spanish?

First we have got an angel and then something divided in parts.

La porción de los ángeles

And I ask myself, what is that? This is the name given to the percentage of spirit which

evaporates into air when it is stored in barrels before consumption.

So let’s talk about a particular spirit which is really important for the film: Whisky

The plot

He is also going to become a father and wants to change his life

A new baby changes everybody’s mind and a moment to think about the past, present and FUTURE

Page 9: The angels’ share

Robbie’s redemption begins with a guided visit to a famous Scottish

distillery (Balblair)

Balblair is in the Highlands.

Another important drink for the film is:

• Irn-bru:A Scottish carbonated soft drink regarded as Scotland’s other national drink

And as for the end …

I will never tell anyone about this part of the story, it makes me feel really angry. Wait til tomorrow.
