SOME INTERESTING FACTS

Otto Wichterle invented soft contact lenses in 1959. The sugar cube was invented in 1843. There are over 2,000 castles in the Czech Republic.

It is the castle capital of the world. The Charles University in Prague (1348) is the oldest

university in Eastern and Central Europe. The word ‘robot’ is Czech and it was first used in

1920 in a theatre play by Karel Capek, RUR.

MOUNTAINS

In the Czech Republic we have a lot of mountains.The highest mountain is Snezka(1,603 meters).

The second one is Vysoke Kolo (1,509 meters).

RIVERS Our most famous rivers are

Vltava(430 km) and Labe(1,091 km, but in our state it is 370 km).

The longest river is Vltava.

CITIES Our capital city Prague is the 15th biggest

city in Europe. In this city live more than 1 million people.

Other cities are Brno,Ostrava,Liberec, etc.

SIGHTSWe have a lot of sights. The most famous are Prague Castle, Charles Bridge , Astronomical Clock, Karlstejn Castle, etc. Prague Castle

NATIONAL SPORTSOur national sport s are ice-hockey, tennis and

football. We love them.

NATIONAL FOOD

Our national food is called vepro, knedlo, zelo. It is pork meat, dumplings and cabbage.

Famous one is svíčková na smetaně (beef sirloin , dumplings and sauce).

On holidays we like to eat trdelnik. Pork, dumplings, cabbage Beef sirloin

MONEY

Our currency is the Czech Crown. Symbol is Kč. Coins are 1,2,5,10,20,50.

Banknotes are 100,200,500,1000,2000 and 5000.

We are a state primary school with 600 pupils aged 6-14.

Our school is situated in a small town called Mnisek pod Brdy, near the capital city Prague.
