Structure
• Its activities are guided by a bi-national Board of Directors of 10 members, five Americans living in India nominated by the US Ambassador and five Indians nominated by the Government of India.
• The day-to-day management of USEFI is vested in an Executive Director.

The Fulbright Program History and Philosophy
• Established in 1946 by former Senator J William Fulbright to:o Increase mutual understanding
between the people of the United States and the people of other countries
o Create a large academic and cultural network around the world

• Operates in 150 countries• Administered by bi-national Fulbright
Commissions in 51 countries and by US Embassies in others
• Since its inception, 261,000 Fulbrighters, 98,850 from US and 162,150 from other countries, have participated in the Program
• 6,000 grants are awarded annually

Since 1950, USEFI has awarded 7,600 Fulbright Fellowships to Indians and Americans
In addition, since 1950, USEFI has administered 8,350 Fellowships funded by the U.S. Government

Hosting U.S. Lecturer for a Semester
Indian Universities can host an U.S. Lecturer under Fulbright Visiting Lecturer Program for a period of four to six months. USEFI pays for all expenses of the scholar and there is no financial liability to the university. Indian universities can apply for hosting visiting lecturers for academic session 2008-09 by October 31, 2006.
