CONTENTS PAGE Sounds The topics within the music Culture Costume Location

SOUNDS The sounds of the hip hop genre normally consist of

one of two things the first is a loud bass with a fast tempo to retain that gospel and jazzy history it has this is normally seen when talking about ones image or gang culture. The second is a smooth mostly drum or guitar tune which still has base but not as much this normally seen when the artist is talking about a prior relationship or the one he is in at the moment.

TOPICS The genre normally is seen for the de-moralisation of

women through the use of showcasing them as an item of sex. Other topics of the genre stretch from gang culture to relationship agendas and also prejudice.

CULTURE The hip hop genre itself originated from jazz, blues

and gospel music. The genre is mainly thought to be a black dominated industry but this is because the lyrics depicted in the genre are mostly about the history and struggle of the artist and the blacks in America struggled the most in the past.

COSTUME The costumes in hip hop are very different for

women and men for example men wear baggy trousers and shirts and at times no shirt with lots of jewellery and “grills” (gold or diamond teeth). Women on the other hand are seen to where merely nothing in music videos and magazine covers. This image of lots of jewellery shows the artist has money.

LOCATION The hip hop industry the artist wants to be seen as a

boss and a hard man so they would most commonly be seen taking pictures in their home town; which is mostly in the ghetto. This depicts the artist history, background, and struggle. The artist can also be seen on stage in some articles to show them in their natural habitat.
