My preliminary task is finished. The genre is horror and it is a short 30 second view of our film called “the haunted”, a film about a series of strange and horrific events that take place within Neale wade academy. My preliminary task is solely edited in black and white and nostalgic sepia tone, this gives a scary setting to introduced main actions and display film clips. Advantages of my preliminary task. A strength of the product we produced is it is very stereotypical and follows all the usual horror stereotypes such as creepy music; for which we used “creepy music box” as non-diegetic sound. We also used fairly stationary shots to build suspense when watching. However this could also be a disadvantage because we aren’t using dynamic shots which mean the viewer gets bored of the same shot type. Disadvantages of my preliminary task. Our shot types where very limited and although we had planned on what types to use, we actually only used a couple of shots during our filming and editing. We were also limited in terms of costume and make up. This made our video seem very childish and unprofessional. Seeing as Lucy did most of the editing, this will be an area I will need to improve on. I will also need to practically apply shot types when filming for my real assessment task. We could also take time to move the camera into new locations and then superimpose each shot of the other; but we were short on time.
