Circulatory system In higher forms of life consists of heart.blood and blood vessels.

Plays an important role in the transport of materials throughout the body .

Heart is completely muscular organ.

Position of heartBehind the sternum in the thoracic cavity,between the lungs titled slighty towards left

Structure of heart

Adult human heart apprroxiimately 12cm long, 9cm broad & about 300gms.

Heart is roughy conical in shape with the upper end broader than lower.

A double membrane called pericardium covers the heart.

The pericardial fluid that fills the space between the membranes protects the heart & also help it to function smoothly.
