What are the problems with the Dystopia?

• They only get their supplies every thirty days, along with supplies they get one addition to their dystopia. • They can not remember why

they are sent, but they end up in the middle of a maze where they must survive with the supplies they are given.

• The maze closes and changes every night, so they have designated runners to explore the maze. The runners believe they have seen all the maze and can not find the way out. Anyone still in the maze when it closes has never made it through the night.

Page 3: The mazerunner

How were the problems in the

dystopia formed?• The world becomes ill and the population rapidly

decreases.

• People from a lab send these few individuals to the maze to research them to help save the world.

• They have grievers that turn people crazy and they do not know the cure for it.

• They are all too scared to fight back against the grievers and that is eventually the way out.

• When they do finally escape they find out that this is only phase one of the research that they need to save the world.

Who is the dystopian hero and what qualities does he embody?

• Thomas is the main hero.• He is very brave, smart, and very curious about the dystopia.• Everybody tells him the way it has been since they have been there,

but he does not believe they are doing it right from the beginning.• Thomas first breaks the rule of running into the maze when you’re not

supposed to go in unless you are a designated runner.

Page 5: The mazerunner

How does the hero function as a cure?• Thomas first breaks a few rules, so he is kind of seen as an outlaw.• When he runs in the maze without permission he kills a griever and

finds a gps that shows them the way out.• Since he is the only one that has made any progress in getting out of

the maze they designate him a runner.• Thomas finds a way to cure the stings of the grievers, and cures their

leader. • He finds the way out and goes back to bring all the cooperating

people back to get them all out.

What fears of our own culture are reflected?• We could have some kind of

chemical attack that causes an illness just like the story.• The government could possibly

do it to us with technology they think is helping, but really ends up destroying society.

Page 7: The mazerunner

What is the warning we are to receive about where our culture is headed?• Our culture needs to stand up for themselves.• Society needs to pay attention to where the government or

technology is trying to take it.• People need to stand up for what they believe in, not what politicians

make you believe.

Page 8: The mazerunner

Where do we see these problems in our life and culture?• We have had chemical wars before. They could try to do it on a bigger

scale to spread illness across the world.• The way the government watches us on videos and with technology,

could also be related to this story. Nobody really knows what kind of research they are doing on us.

Page 9: The mazerunner

How should our culture change or be prepared to avoid becoming a dystopian world like the movie?• There is not a lot you can do

about illnesses and diseases. All you can do is try to stay away from the virus, and stay as healthy as you can.

RationaleI have chosen to do my presentation on the maze runner movie. I plan on

just making a basic power point to cover the questions. I am not very creative or very computer friendly. I know how to do the basic things but nothing special. I will probably throw in some pictures or clips from the

movie, just to try to keep people entertained. This kind of project has been very hard for me due to not being the most creative person. It has been a long time since I have done a presentation so I have been playing around

with power point trying to find different ways to keep the readers entertained. I am trying to be as creative as I can, hopefully it keeps

everybody entertained. I still have not finished the movie so I don't have a real outline yet. I do plan on watching it this week and working a lot on my

project. I’m hoping to have enough specific details to help you better envision the story as you read it. I’m adding some effects to it just so it’s not plain and it adds some variety. It is really difficult to explain the whole story and to fully understand it because this is only the first of three movies. Not knowing what happens in the other movies and books restricts how much you can explain about what happens to the hero and the outcome for the

hero.
