This presentation looks at one of the Channels used by the Open University to reach students and the wider world. After only 2 years of The Open University in iTunes U we can demonstrate some pretty cool impact for the mix of free a/v materials that we have released. And now we are working hard on mobile apps and even our own private site - just for our own students... this is allowing us to do some interesting rethinking ...

Lots of universities have sites in YouTube: See eg. http://delicious.com/psychemedia/youtube+uk+hei

New EDU space.- but a good idea to get one click further away from the skateboarding dog.

Last year: 600+ Universities in iTunes U. in 18 countries

Many, many pages with embedded video...

In the OU we tend to think very hard about the channels we use to our folks...

• 19,727,000 downloads

• over 2,010,800 visitors downloaded files

• currently averaging* 268,000 public downloads a week (*4 week ave)

• around 90% of visitors from outside the United Kingdom

• 1 in 15 downloaders go on to visit the OU website

• public site has 312 albums; 145 current courses represented (1,225 audio, 1,492 video)

• just opened ‘private’ OU student only site

• currently delivering an average of 0.33 TB of data a week via Amazon S3, with a further estimate of 2 – 3 TB delivered via Akamai.
