Chapter 1 summary
CHAPTER 1
Chapter one focuses on introducing the girls
who form the Brodie Set and their teacher
Miss Brodie.
From page 5-10 the chapter is set in 1936
when the girls are 16 years old.
From page 10 there is a flashback back to
1930 when the Brodie Set first formed.
THE BRODIE SET
The brodie set is made of six girls favoured by Miss Brodie, their teacher.
Sandy Stranger - main girl in the "Brodie Set“, best friends with Jenny Gray, small eyes, famous for her vowel soundsRose Stanley- famous for sexMary MacGregor- famous for being a “silent lump”Eunice Gardiner – small and neat, famous for gymnastics and swimmingMonica Douglas – red nose winter and summer, fat peg-like legs, famous for mathematics skills and her temperJenny Gray –an actress, prettiest of the set, Sandy’s best friend.

outsider who wanted to get into the famous set.
THE BRODIE SET
“The girls wore their hats each with a
definite difference”- shows that they are
completely different from each other. This is
proven by:
“They had no team spirit and had nothing in
common with each other apart from their
friendship with Miss Brodie”
MISS JEAN BRODIE
She informs her students on subjects irrelevant to the curriculum. Her students have heard of; the buchmanites and Mussolini, the Italian painters, skin care, her personal life.
Teaches at Junior school
All her students counted on their fingers.
There have been many attempts to remove her but they all failed.
Doesn’t get along with other staff, but does not show it.
