Who is Nikola Tesla?

• Nikola Tesla was born on 10 July 1856 into a Serb family in the village of Croatia.

• Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.

Edison’s help

• On june 6th 1884 he went to United States .• And was hired by Thomas Alva Edison

to do basic electrical engineering to redesign the direct current generator in Edison’s business.

Alternating current

• Tesla then left Edison and went to George Washington to commercialize his system of alternating current in 1888 .• But the problem here was AC was

competing DC which was developed by Edison.

Current war

• Edison started spreading false information on AC .

• “Hundred of people are suffering from alternative current symptoms it is very bad”

DC>AC

• Thomas Edison electrocute elephant rather killed them by showing how dangerous electric current was .

Alternating current

• Alternating current was however demanding as :• DC could pass current only 2 miles maximum that

means for every 2.5 km there should be electric substation, whereas in AC it was about 100 of miles.

• AC was fast and reliable and cheap compared to DC.

• Light running on AC was bright light unlike dim yellow light of Edison's DC

Truth behind light bulb:

• We might heard that Edison was the man behind light bulb but sorry to say it was not right,22 people were simultaneously working on light bulb but Edison had best marketing skills .

• Nikola Tesla invented and perfected 24 different machines which would replace Edison's models.

Tesla’s projects:

• Tesla was the 1st man to invent hydroelectricity when AC was accepted , it was used in a power station at Niagara falls. This was when first hydro power was invented .

• In 1901 Wilhelm Rontgen was awarded the noble prize in physics for discovering the X-Ray but the truth is that Tesla had already invented it refused to experiment it.

Tesla ‘s project :

• In 1909,the noble prize in phiycs was awarded jointly to Marconi and Karl Ferdinand for inventing radio. All they did was duplicated Tesla’s project .

• When Tesla came to know about it he said “Marconi is a good fellow let him continue he is actually using my 17 patents” .

Tesla’s project:

In 1935 Robert Watson had recognition on radar but again the truth was that the radar was already invented by Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla had pitched the same technology to the U.S navy in 1917 during the advent of world war 1. At that time Edison was the research and development head of the US navy .

He ridiculed Tesla’s idea by saying that it had no practical application on war.

Tesla as hero

• Nikola tesla becam the time person of the year when he turned 75 . He got many medal. Honour and apresation from albert einstein.• The world lost tesla at the age of 86

on 7th jan 1943. But his legacy leaves in our mind and heart .
