The debate and impassioned controversy regarding the clinical decision making ‘to save or to extract’ is currently more and more impacting the whole profession leading to polar opposite views on the clinical management of the question.This lecture will provide a case-by-case approach to the decision making process, which will give the practitioner the best possible advice in order to solve the treatment decision dilemma.

This lecture promises to be an eye-popping view in regards of what-when-where-how-why of contemporary attempts to save the natural tooth and / or indicate replacement.

By attending this event delegates will be able to:

• apply proper endodontic case difficulty assessment• recognise when to perform endodontic treatment and when to refer• understand the endodontic and periodontic treatment decision tree• know the restorative and implantologic treatment decision tree.

Edward LynchHead of Dentistry, University of Warwick

Edward Lynch is a specialist in Endodontics, Prosthodontics and restorative Dentistry and a BUPA Consultant in oral Surgery. During his career, he has been awarded a total of 94 research grants, totalling around £5 million and has more than 500 publications.

He has held the position of Professor of restorative Dentistry and gerodontology of the Queen’s University Belfast as well as Consultant in restorative Dentistry to the royal Hospitals. He also served as the Consultant Editor of gerodontology, Treasurer and Secretary to gorg, iADr and Editor of the gorg iADr newsletter. He has served as Senior Lecturer in Conservative Dentistry and Honorary Consultant in restorative Dentistry and Postgraduate Course organiser for the University of London, where he was full time for 20 years.

He is a Consultant to the ADA, a spokesperson for the BDA, a scientific board member of the international Health Care foundation and iSBor and is on the editorial board of numerous international journals. He is also the Chairman of the European Experts group on tooth whitening and has presented to the EU parliament on tooth whitening.

Edward Lynch was elected the most influential person in Uk Dentistry in 2010 by his peers in Dentistry magazine’s Top 50 poll.

Liviu Steierowner, mS Dentistry and Honorary Associate Clinical Professor Course Director, University of Warwick

Liviu Steier received his Dr. med. dent. (PhD) in 1982. He is Specialist in Prosthetics of the DgPro (www.dgpro.de) and Specialist in Endodontics.

Dr Steier is the winner of the first prize for “Best research on the Use of oral Pharmaceuticals for the management of Caries in older Adults” – iADr 2005 in Baltimore, USA.

He is Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at Warwick medical School and course director of the mSc in Endodontics. He is Visiting Professor at florence School of Dental medicine (italy) in the restorative Department. He has been Programme Director and Co-director of over 200 continuing education programmes around the world and has published extensively including referred chapters in textbooks.

He is a fellow of different international dental academies as well as having memberships in several societies. He is member of the Scientific Board of the Journal of Endodontics. He is Editor-in-Chief of REALITY ENDO, Clinical Editor of Dental Tribune UK and maintains private practices in germany and 20 Wimpole Street (www.drsteier.de).
