Narrative Theory Steps

Todorov’s narrative theory states that most story’s or plot lines follow the same pattern or path.

There are 5 steps in this pattern:1. A state of equilibrium at the start.2. A disruption of the equilibrium by some action. 3. A recognition that there has been a disruption. 4. An attempt to repair the disruption.5. A reinstatement of the equilibrium.

This type of narrative structure is commonly seen throughout many films. It is easily recognisable and familiar.

Disequilibrium

Well being is disrupted by an outside force and has to fought to return back to the normal state of equilibrium.
