Asking How People Are

1 Nasılsın? How are you?

İyiyim, sağ ol. Sen nasılsın? I am fine, thanks. How are you?

Ben de iyiyim, sağ ol. I am also fine, thanks.

2 Nasılsınız? How are you? (More formal or plural)

İyiyim, teşekkürler. Siz nasılsınız? I am fine, thanks. How are you?

Ben de iyiyim, sağ olun. I am also fine, thanks.

3 (Senin işlerin, hayatın, kısaca her şey) Nasıl gidiyor? How is it going?

How are things?

İyi gidiyor / Fena değil. It’s going well / Not bad.

4 İşler nasıl? How is work?

İşler iyi / İşler yolunda / Bir sorun yok. Work is ok / Everything is

ok / There is no problm.

5 Ne var, ne yok? What’s new?

Yeni bir şey yok. Nothing new.

6 N’aber? How are you? (ınformal way of asking “How are you?”

Literally it means “What news?”)

İyidir, senden / İyilik, senden? I am fine. And you?

• The learner reads and studies the questions before the

class.

• The learner starts asking the questions because he/she

needs to listen to the instructior's answers as a model.

• The instructor asks questions this time, extends the

questions, introduces new vocabulary and idioms etc.
