1. UNDERSTANDING POINT OF VIEW English IV
2. POINT OF VIEW Every person on earth has a personal viewpoint
on things and this viewpoint depends on how we were raised, what we
know and how we apply our knowledge to our experiences. Our point
of view may change over time to include opinions, belief systems,
or ideas about life.
3. CHANGES: Change occurs when we get outside of our comfort
zone and look at things from others perspectives.
4. EXAMPLE:
5. ROLE REVERSAL Pretend you are Little Red Riding Hood. What
is your perspective of the events of your day when you went to your
grandmothers house? Now, look at the story from the perspective of
the wolf. How does the story differ?
6. DONT JUDGE TOO QUICKLY As with any story or event, there are
always more than one perspective or way of looking at a sequence of
events. Before writing anything, use perspective. This is not easy
if you have strict beliefs, but it is well worth trying so you can
come to a deeper understanding of others and the events that shape
our lives and stories.
7. ASSIGNMENT: Using the state library web site, find opposing
viewpoints articles. Read two from each perspective. Write a paper
from the point of view that is opposite your own personal point of
view. Remember to cite sources.
