How is it similar to my potential tracks?

• This track is similar to my chosen potential tracks because it is about being content with your life and getting yourself right back up.

Page 4: Updated A2 preparatory task three

What is the track about?

• The music track is about Keri being caught in a love triangle with Kanye and Ne-yo. It is about love changing your life and also your mindset of love. It is about remembering the past but remembering that the future is brighter.

Themes

• Love• Love triangle• Past• Present• Future• Flashbacks• Couples• Relationships

Motifs• There are a lot of close ups on the artists so that the audience can feel a personal

connection with them almost as if the artist is really experiencing the issues shown in the video. It emphasises the artists emotional state regarding the love triangle. Also, the artists falling in slow motion is repeated quite a few times and this could represent the pain of falling down (emotionally) and also how love is something you cant quickly get over. Slow motions are used to emphasise a stressful moment and this suggests that this whole love triangle is affecting her negatively.

Expectations

• The video conforms to Keri perfectly as most of Keri’s videos are about the negative side of being in love/relationship.

Page 8: Updated A2 preparatory task three

Narrative and performance based • The video is narrative based because it includes flashbacks

which links to experiences which makes the videos more realistic so that the audience can really relate with the artist.

• It is also performance based with the use of the artists falling in slow motion to represent the pain and also connote how love is something you can’t quickly get over.

Mis En Scene• There is a portrait of Keri, this represents romance as Kanye paints Keri

and this connotes how much he loves her and the fact that it is a portrait represents that she will forever be on his mind connoting how much she means to him. In the end, the three artists attend a party, the other peoples faces are not really shown which suggests that no one has been involved in ruining the relationship apart from themselves which foreshadows that it is up to themselves to fix their relationship.

Camera Angles • There is a birds eye view of Keri on the bed, this is done in a

seductive manner suggesting that this is meant to appeal to the male audience. The use of the birds eye view is to represent Keri’s true perspective and this is linked to us seeing her body language and her body language is seductive which suggests that she will carry on playing men.

Special effects/editing • Visual effects is shown significantly in this video when Kanye falls and is shattered into pieces,

this connotes the extreme pain of relationships also, having nothing to live for if we don’t encounter love properly. It suggests that he is heartbroken and this is shown in a visual way by breaking him into pieces. There is also split screens in this video for example, there is a black and white picture contrasted with a colour picture which shows the past and present of their relationship. This subverts the audiences expectations as the black and white shot is where they are happy however, in the coloured picture, it represents them being frustrated with each other. This all represents that their relationship should have been kept plain and simple with only them being significant in their relationship in order to be happy in their relationship.

Lip synching • Lip synching is used throughout the whole video because it allows the

artists to connect with the audience, as it appears that these artists are really experiencing the issues involved in the track even though they are not. Also, there is lip synching when there is confrontation between Kanye and Keri, this is used so that the audience can explore the artists thoughts, feelings, emotion through body language and gestures and the pain of love is represented through this confrontation.

Target Audience

• Both men and female- Adults in a relationship or even married going through rough patches.

Page 14: Updated A2 preparatory task three

How they are encouraged to buy the record?

• The use of three big well-known artists in one video is the obvious answer. Also, stereotypically it is mostly men who cheat in relationships however, in this video it is a female cheating so it allows us to see the effects cheating has on men.

What ideas can I use in my own music video?

• The slow-motion effect so that the audience can explore thoughts and feelings of the artist in more depth. Slow-motion allows the audience to see the significant moment in time which would be good to use as in my own music video, it will allow the audience to figure out what is the root to the situation and allow them to figure out the storyline subconsciously.

• The use of the artist shattering into pieces to yet again allow the audience to explore thoughts and feelings of the artist in more depth as it emphasises the past experiences of the artist being painful.
