Uses of
OLIVE OIL1st EPAL Ierapetra’s
Olive oil is used for many things.
Some of them are:
recipes, folk medicine, religion, cosmetic
use, medicine, etc.
Olive oil is used in most dishes and
also in pastries. It is healthy and very
important in the Mediterranean diet.
In beauty products we use olive oil for
lotions, soaps and cosmetics.
Soap made of olive
oil is hydrating,
hypoallergic and
full of antioxidants.
Also, it is used in folk medicine. Our
grandmothers got the recipes from their
grandmothers.
You can use oil for dry skin.
If you mix it with honey, it makes wounds heal faster.
Eating a spoonful of olive oil a day keeps you strong and
healthy.
For shiny hair mix olive oil with egg yolk and white
vinegar.
Rub your body with olive oil mixed with lemon if you
suffer from arthritis.
In oil lamps in church we put
olive oil to keep the flame
burning.
Religion
Christening: The priest and
the godparents puts olive oil
on the baby. The symbolism
is that olive oil softens the
cruelty of the heart and fills
it with the healing medicine
of love.
