Using Technology in learning- FLDP training notesThe learning techniques help the instructor to deliver a certain topic to students, The topic is a collection of related information and the information is the data with a meaning, and knowledge is information with direction while wisdom is knowledge with decision. Thus learning process finally lead to wisdom, and the techniques used in learning may include the technological devices.Education is the formal learning, while learning is (information+skills).Using technology in education is the summation of Education philosophy and Information Communication technology (ITC) philosophy. Information Communication technology (ITC) philosophy is using electronic devices connected to the internet.

Education philosophy is composed of1. information2. skills3. ethics

Ethics made the learning formal. The only difference among education in different stages and training lies in the percent of information and skills.

Education in business can be briefly classified into four categories

1. k12 (before university) more skills than information2. higher education (university) more information than skills3. E-cooperation (in companies) can be called training, intensive skills

that can be improved to information4. Government ( public awareness) that are announced by the

government to fight social manners

Types of learning1. Traditional learning→ teacher with hardware (more information + limited

skills)

Page 2: Using technology in learning fldp training notes

2. Blended learning→ teacher + software + hardware + technology aids (information + skills)

3. E-learning → software + hardware + technology aids (pure information)The most effective type of learning is the blended learning, and thus we are going to explore the suitable software and hardware components of this type of learning. One of the most important software components is the presentation software that is used to introduce the required topic.

The software for making powerful presentation can be classified into

1. Linear (sequential) presentation; a. Benefits:

i. compactii. simplified

iii. interactive when used with smart witeboards, iv. layouts, templates can be added to add good unique look,

REPOSITORY PowerPoint PPT Presentationshttp://www.powershow.com/search/presentations/repository

v. handouts, help adding useful nodes for print layout and presentation preparation.

b. Examples:i. Microsoft power point; based on windows only (.ppt

& .pptx), currently there is a version for MACii. OOP (Open Office Presentation): based on windows, linux,

and MAC; (ppt & .pptx, .odp (International Open Standard format, .swf )https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

iii. Libre office, based on linuxhttp://www.libreoffice.org/discover/libreoffice/

iv. Google slides, adds the benefit of sharing slides, and saving it freely within 15 GB size.

c. Note: i. Open Office Presentation (OOP) and google slides →

Microsoft power point, but not vise versa

Page 3: Using technology in learning fldp training notes

ii. OOP (Open Office Presentation), Libre office, and Google slides are similar to microsoft power point 2003 version

2. Zooming / scenario presentationa. Benefits:

i. idea of visual map and pathii. attractive scenario description

iii. free online within 100MB space, your work can be downloaded and presented using flash player

b. example: Prezi ,available in https://prezi.com/yushxpj4sfve/edit/ It is a story form consisting of

i. startii. End

iii. zooming stations for explaining the stepsc. the only problem is the unclear printout look

In general Google has a lot of useful tools that are available for each gmail account, some are mentioned here for further usage .

Available useful google tools1. Google docs → document sharing and backup private /shared storing (15

GB free storage size)2. Google books→ library with free books for online reading3. Google scholar→ scientific research engine4. Google drive → online/offline stored document and storage handling5. google maps→ saving visited places and directions with traffic indicator

based on connected users6. google forms → online questionnaire/ quiz making 7. hangouts→ video conferencing8. google (sheets, presentation ) → excel and presentation9. Google drawing 10.youtube→ creating channel and subscribing in certain channels

And more can be explored from gmail accountThere is a lot of software used to create sequential animated description of certain scenario example:

Page 4: Using technology in learning fldp training notes

1. Go animate → 15 days free trialhttps://goanim

2. Video scribe → 7 days free trial (using hands in writing what you say)http://www.videoscribe.co/

Another websites are MOOCs ( Massive Open Online Courses) let you take free courses but pay only for certificate from international universities, like courserahttps://www.coursera.org/Guide to Taking Free Coursera Courses in http://personalweb.about.com/od/onlineeducation/a/Coursera-Courses-Free.htm Using hardware include the smartboard that saves manipulation and transmit it to the laptop connected to it, so students don’t need to take notes; the file can be taken from the laptophttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOspbabg-SE

The power of all these techniques lies in reaching all types of thinking that can be categorized into four basic types. All people have the four types with varying percent, since one can take more time practicing one of the four types than the other three types as discussed by Silverman learning and teaching model.

1. Silverman learning and teaching model can be summarized in four colors “blue→ rational and logical linear thinking (need details), Green→ planning, executive thinking (application oriented) , Red→ inter-feeling emotional, and Yellow→ creative, intuition, (global leadership)” it is better to satisfy each type of thinking periodically to keep the attention of all the students in the class.

2. Silverman learning and teaching model can be clearly discussed in http://thepeakperformancecenter.com/educational-learning/learning/preferences/learning-styles/felder-silverman/

3. Richard Felder's Home Page, RESOURCES IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING EDUCATION http://www4.ncsu.edu/unity/lockers/users/f/felder/public/RMF.html

4. Index of Learning Styles Questionnaire . very useful and interestinghttps://www.engr.ncsu.edu/learningstyles/ilsweb.html

5. Learner metrics (ACTIVE/ REFLECTIVE)(SENSING/INTUITIVE)(VISUAL/ VERBAL) (SEQUENTIAL/ GLOBAL) for further details about LEARNING

During learning process each type of thinking needs to be complemented through suitable studying routine to achieve the complete understanding.

Effective search

first we need to answer simple questions to motivate the creative (yellow) learners

1. What will you search for !! → two thingsa. credible informationb. credible source of information, note that adding website as a

reference must be labeled with date in case of website updates. When Conducting Academic Research or Purely Scientific Research, These Sites can be an Invaluable Aid http://www.emergingedtech.com/2013/12/top-11-trusted-and-free-search-engines-for-scientific-and-academic-research/this site includes the best 14 search engines for academic researchershttp://www.new-educ.com/14-des-meilleurs-moteurs-de-recherche-academique-scientifique

2. how should you search!! → using three types of software programsa. search engine, like google; where organizing DB is

computerized→ huge DBb. search directory, like old yahoo; where organizing DB is manual

by volunteers→ higher reliability.c. Both work online during the searching process and offline for

periodical update of the database.d. metasearch engine, like mamma, and dogpile; collects the best

results from the top search engines and directories. They can be Reviewed and Compared inhttp://www.searchenginepeople.com/blog/10-meta-search-engines-reviewed-and-compared.html

3. The most suitable dictionaries are a. the scientific/specific dictionaries, for engineering

http://www.dictionaryofengineering.com/

Page 6: Using technology in learning fldp training notes

b. metadectionary that obtains the best results from the best dictionaries, ex. http://www.onelook.com/

4. Important rules a. seek, don’t search. b. find the right keywords “ Use perl culture”.c. maximum search time 15-20 min.s , if not get what you want,

change the strategy

Plagiarism

includes 1. words. 2. ideas.3. process4. results

How to avoid?1. understand2. write in your own words3. insert the reference

Plagiarism software1. Viper2. plagiarism checker X, disadvantage: doesn’t exclude self plagiarism

To solve writing problems1. Grammarly2. Grammatic
