OBJECTIVESIVES 1. Ex-situ conservation and

propagation of the fauna of Western and Eastern Ghats.

2. To provide facility for health care and rehabilitation of rescued animals.

3. conduct scientific studies on the fauna to enhance our knowledge on animal behavior

INDIAN GAUR- BOS GAURUS

Food in Captivity:  Wheat bran, soaked Bengal gram, salt, grass and leaves.

Sexual Maturity: 4-5 years

Breeding Season: December and January.

Gestation Period: 270 days.

Litter Size: Usually one.

Life Span: 24 years.

Length: Medium-sized, with males reaching 10 - 13 ft

Average Lifespan:25-35 years

Wild Diet:Fish, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals

Zoo Diet:Rats and rabbits

Predators:Man 1) Fresh water crocodile

2) critically endangered

SIAMESE CROCODILE – CROCODYLUS SIAMENSIS

Length: 15-26 cm.

Food in Captivity: Carrot, cabbage.

Reproduction:3 to 6 eggs.

Breeding Season: October-January.

Status: Rare.

1) The young ones are brightly coloured and hatch after 70-120 days

2) It moves about when it is dark

INTRODUCTION

Hello madam,I am viswak group leader of the evolution

group here by to convey the message that the upcoming slides which you are about to see has some information about the animals found in vandalur zoo which we collected on 27.10.2015.The upcoming pictures are real pictures which we took and for proof sake we have attached a group photo which we took in front of vandalur zoo front gate.

White tiger(Panthera tigris)

Recessive mutant of royal bengal tiger ,reported in assam ,Bengal and former states of Rewa

Feeds on deer ,buffalo, wild pig, elephants etc.

Breeds throughout the year and delivers 3-4 cubs after a gestation of 103 days.

Lives up to 15 years .

Lion tailed macaque(macaca silenus

Found only in western ghats Arboreal and live in troops of 12-20.

Feeds on young leaves flowers fruits nuts invertebrates and young ones of small mammals.

Breeds throughout the year and delivers one to two young ones ay a gestation of 6 months

Lives up to 20 – 30 years.This species is one among the vulnerable

species.

LION TALIED MACAQUE

Hog deer(axis porcinus)

Related to the beautiful chital, this deer have a squat pig like body.

But it reminds you of a hog when it moves with its head held low down, without the familiar bounding action of other deer.

Generally a solitary animal,the hod deer is wary and has an acute sense of smell sight and hearing.
