Steps for writing an equation.

1. Relate the variables in words.Example: the cost in dollars is equal to 21 times the

number of people.

2. Define the variables:c = cost in dollarsn = number of people

3. Write your equation:c = 21n

Note: the number comes before the variable and no multiplication sign is used
