Earl Sweatshirt – “Chum”

I like the use of black and white as it helps to give a low

key effect even though everything is well lit. The imagery

works well with the lyrics and tone of the song. The

simplistic skeleton and face are on screen during the

chorus when the singer says, “there’s something sinister to

it”, which makes the drawings creepy looking. The

carousel also helps to make the video look creepy as it is

a horror convention. I think that for my video I will try to

incorporate these ideas but I will struggle to find a carousel

so I will have to find other horror film imagery.

Marilyn Manson – “The Beautiful People”

The fast paced editing mixed with the imagery of the old science laboratory creates a

scary looking effect which I think would suit my song. I will try to create this effect in my

video as I will be using derelict locations so there will probably be things that I can use to

create this effect or I could create the scene myself by taking extra props. The last 2 shots

are from the same shot however the video changed from black and white to colour which

is an effect that I liked and might use in my video. The make up that he used is also

something that I like, I had previously wanted to use black sclera contact lenses however I

think that the white contacts with a black stripe across the face creates more of a contrast

which is better aesthetically.

American Horror Story (title sequences)

There is a lot in the title sequences for American Horror

Story including the Victorian era photographs, creepy

laboratories, insane asylum, babies in jars, occult imagery

and the use of low key lighting. I also really like the

silhouette effect that was used.

My music video will incorporate a lot of styles from horror films such as the simplistic mask style that Rob Zombie used in

Halloween. I will also use shadows to create suspense in a similar way to Nosferatu and silhouettes similar to A Nightmare on

Elm Street. I will try to get an old TV set to play on static like in Poltergeist and then have VCR tapes that such people into the

TV similar to Sinister. I like the costume for the girls in The Shining so I will try to use similar costume ideas for my female role

in my video. I also like the tricycle used in The Shining as it looks creepy so I will try to use one in my video o create a similar

effect.

Slipknot – Psychosocial

I like the mese en scene of this video as they have used an old looking barn which looks dark and grungy. The big

heads also look cool however they look like they would take too long to create and they are made of paper mache so

they would probably break in my locations as it is likely to rain. The burning band logo looks cool and I will probably

try to use some fire in my video as it has a good visual effect. The focus is pulled a lot in this video which creates a

horror film look, which I liked and so will try to replicate.
