VOCABULARY LIST
GOAL: The student will be able to handle the four quadrants of the co-ordinates plane to translate, rotate or reflect different 2D shapes or polygons, identify the polyhedrons, nets,
faces and vertices.
coordinates- the unique ordered pair of numbers associated with each point in a plane.coordinate plane- the plane, made by the horizontal and vertical axes, used to graph two-dimensional objects.ordered pair- a pair of numbers, (x, y), that belongs to a specific point on the coordinate plane.origin- the meeting point of the x- and y-axes having the coordinates of (0, 0).translation- sliding a graph to a new position in the coordinate plane without changing its shape.
Rotation: A circular movement. Rotation has a central point that stays fixed and everything else moves around that point in a circle.Reflection: A transformation where each point in a shape appears at an equal distance on the opposite side of a given line - the line of reflection.Transformation- moving every point of a graph the same distance either left, right, up, down, or toward or away from the axes.Vertex- the point where two line segments meet.X-intercept- the point at which a graph crosses the x-axis.Y-intercept- the point at which a graph crosses the y-axis.Quadrant: the four regions in a coordinate plane.
