Erosion Processes

There are four main types of erosion in the Coast.

Abrasion - the wearing of rock due to rock fragments being hurled against cliffsAttrition - the breakdown of rocks as they hit against each otherHydraulic Action - the force of waves compressing air into cracks in the rock, cracks expand and it repeats until the rock is eroded

Wave Pounding - sheer force of water hitting rocksSolution - where minerals in rocks are dissolved by the salt and chemicals in the water.Scouring - occurs where water and broken rock fragments swirl around at the base of cliffs
