What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Through making my music magazine, I have learnt how to use many types of software as well as technology.

One example is Photoshop. Before starting this project I didn’t know how to use Photoshop. By playing around with it in the preliminary task, I was able to understand and get the gist of the software in order to use it for what I needed. One example of me using the software was to erase the background for my cover girls picture so that the picture would blend in well and fit the magazine. This allowed my magazine pages to look more professional and flush in comparison to if I hadn’t done that.

Also, by using Photoshop I learnt how to adjust an image’s brightness, exposure, contrast etc. This means that if I had a picture that was too dull or too bright I was able to adjust it before using it in my magazine.

By using InDesign to make my magazine, I was able to come up with amore professional looking magazine as I was able to use techniques such as guttering to get clean lines and sharp edges of my pages.

One area I feel I excelled is in my contents page. I used three mean columns to generate sub articles that are just a bit less important than the main article. This allowed a clean and clear look to my magazine. Also, by making the articles page numbers see through, this allows the reader to still see the picture behind the number, meaning they could still get a clear understanding of the page.

As well as the above, by using InDesign to design and construct my magazine, I was able to develop a house theme easily as the colours I used saved and I was able to use them throughout the magazine, for example, the blue, pink and purple theme running throughout the magazine.

In terms of technology, I learnt how to use a bridge camera available in my class. This means I was able to get better, more high quality pictures than I would have with a more basic point-and-shoot camera. Whilst using the camera, I was able to learn about lighting as I used artificial light from stands and a reflective circle that I found out was called a bounce light after using it. Using these led me to achieve pictures that are far more bright and showed more detail than it would have if I had not.

Again, whilst using all of these pieces of equipment I was able to recap and use all different types of angles and shots on my model to achieve a variety of pictures that I would be able to use in the construction of my magazine.
