The Diploma consists of 4 units.

You have 5 years to complete the Diploma.

You can complete the units in any order.

Managing health and safety

Taught over 10 days – 2 blocks of 5 days.

Areas covered include...

Principles of health and safety management.

Measuring and reviewing health and safety performance.

Identifying hazards, assessing and evaluating risk.

Organisational and human factors.

Principles of health and safety law.

Criminal and civil law.

Unit B

Hazardous agents in the workplace

Taught over 10 days – 2 blocks of 5 days.

Areas covered include...

Principles of toxicology and epidemiology.

Hazardous substances and other chemicals – assessment of risk.

Hazardous substances and other chemicals – engineering controls and protective equipment.

Monitoring and measuring.

Biological agents.

Unit C

Workplace and Work Equipment

Taught over 10 days – 2 blocks of 5 days.

Areas covered include...

 General workplace issues.

Principles of fire and explosion.

Workplace fire risk assessment.

Storage, handling and processing of dangerous substances.

Work equipment – machinery, mobile and general.

Electrical safety and Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Construction hazards and controls.

Unit D

Application of Health and Safety Theory and Practice

A detailed review of the health and safety performance of your workplace.

Use the knowledge gained in units A-C.

Write a justified action plan aimed at improving performance.

Expected length of the assignment is around 8,000 words.
