Learn About Free, Downloadable Music @ Your LibraryOn Saturday, September 7th we’ll have a demo in the front lobby of the Central Library. Drop in between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and we’ll show you how easy it is to download free music on to your laptop, ipod, ipad or your gadget of choice. For your chance to win an iPod nano, visit the contest tab on the Library’s Facebook page, message us with your weekly downloads each week for the next four weeks starting September 7th and you’ll be entered in the draw. Or, fill out an entry each week at your local branch. The contest begins September 7th until October 5th and the winner will be announced on Monday, October 7th. Happy Music Day!

Online learning anytime, anywhere…just a click away! Something for everyone!Learn4Life offers a wide range of highly interactive courses that you can take entirely online. Courses are free to library cardholders and are led by experts in their field. Each course runs for six weeks and new sessions begin every month. (Upcoming sessions begin September 18th and October 16th). MS Word, Photography, Creative Writing, Guitar, Languages, Successful Relationships, Job Searching and Starting Your Own Business are just a few examples of the many courses that are offered. Family Storytime (2 to 5 years)Family storytimes are aimed at children ages 2 to 5, but everyone is welcome to join us for a toe-tapping, finger-snapping good time!

Kindergarten and Beyond! (3 to 5 years)This hands-on, six week program, is designed for parents/caregivers and their children to learn important early literacy skills that will help children to succeed in school. Parents/caregivers will learn fun activities they can do at home with their child to continue the early literacy learning. Parent/caregiver participation is required. Previous attendance at storytime recommended. Children must be between the ages of 3 and 5 upon registering. Younger siblings are not allowed to attend. Registration is required.

All About Joining a Book ClubBook clubs are a fantastic way to meet new people, read great books, and share opinions about what you’ve read. Experienced Pickering Public Library book club leaders, Maureen McVarish and Terry Caruso, will share tips and resources that will help you start a book club of your own or facilitate the organization of new clubs at the Library. Participants will also be introduced to Pickering Public Library’s new Book Club Sets, complete with discussion questions. This will be an evening of lively discussion and refreshments. Acrylic Landscapes - Step by StepLearn how to mix colours and make brush strokes to create shapes. We invite you to grab your smart phone, tablet, or laptop and engage in some guided, hands-on interactions with tech experts from the Library and Future Shop. Learn how to use devices you currently own or discover the latest technology ready for your holiday wish list.
