DESKTOP VIDEO MAGNIFIER

Desktop Video Magnifier Added to Central Library Collection. Thanks to a generous donation by the Rotary Club of Pickering, a video magnifier is now available for public use at the Pickering Central Library. This magnifier allows those with visual impairments to read and write by enhancing texts, objects and images.

The magnifier is available for use during all Central Library open hours.

THE PICKERING AJAX DIGITAL ARCHIVEThe Pickering Ajax Digital Archive contains thousands of historical photographs and hundreds of full-text documents which are completely indexed and easily searched. Visit http://www.pada.ca.

A small reference collection containing duplicate copies of the most popular items in the local history collection, is located at the Central Library and is available during all operating hours.

Access to original materials in this collection is by ap-pointment only. Appointments can be made by visiting in person, emailing the Library at [email protected], or by calling 905-831-6265 ext. 6240.

MARCH BREAK SHORT STORY CONTEST Do you enjoy writing? If so sign up for the Library’s March Break Short Story Contest. For full contest details visit your local Pickering Public Library Branch or go online to www.picnet.org/kids.

1. Short story can be no longer than two pages2. Short story must begin with the line, “I was using a

computer at the library when suddenly the screen went blank and up popped a...”3. Writers must have their own Pickering Public Library card 4. Fully completed entry form must accompany short story5. Entries will be divided into the following age categories:

JK - SK, grades 1 - 3, 4 - 6, 7 - 8, 9 - 12 6. Writers must email, [email protected], or drop off their

Recycled Art Contest 2012!

Do you enjoy arts and crafts? Do you like making things out of stuff you can find around your house? If so, sign up for the Library’s Recycled Art Contest. Prizes will be awarded for the entries that best meet the judges’ criteria.
