First Language; (L1)(Mother Tongue or Native Language)
Any language learned in childhood and still spoken.
It is the language first learned, the language (s) a person has learned from the birth, or that a person speaks the best.
Children brought up speaking more than one language can have more than one native language, and be bilingual.
Second Language;(L2)
This refers to the learning of English for use in a context where English is the principal\official language used.
For exampleImmigrants Learning English in U.S.A
English as a Second language ESL
Any language learned in addition to mother tongue.
A person’s L2 is not a mother tongue,But, It is used in the area of that person.
Foreign Language; (FL) -A language that is learned in an
area where that language is not generally spoken.
-An English speaker living in Japan can say that Japanese is a foreign language to him or her.
-Most schools around the world teach at least one foreign language.

ESL & EFL• Who Is an EFL Learner? English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learner is
someone who is learning English Language in a country where English is not the official or the dominant language used by everybody.
• Who Is an ESL Learner? English as a Second Language (ESL) learner is
someone who is learning English in a country or area where English is the official or dominant language.
How Are They Different ?
EFL & ESL differs in;1. Level of Exposure to the
English Language.2. Effort Exerted by ESL / EFL
Learners.3. Effort Exerted by ESL / EFL
Instructors.
Native Speaker;A person who :
-Has learned a language from an early age,
-Has full mastery of that language.
Native speakers may differ in terms of vocabulary and stylistic aspects of language use, but they tend to agree on the basic grammar of language.
Native-Like
The ability to comprehend and produce a second language at a level of performance which is hardly distinguishable from that of a native speaker.
Abbreviations;• TEFL: Teaching English as a foreign
language.• TESL: Teaching English as a second
language.• TESOL: Teaching English to speakers of
other languages.
• TOEFL: Test of English as a foreign language.
• TOEIC: Test of English for international communication.
• IELTS: International English language testing system.
Which Accent ?• British English (BrE) is the form of English used in
the United Kingdom. It includes all English dialects used in the United Kingdom.
• American English (AmE) is the form of English used in
the United States. It includes all English dialects used in the United States.
Accents are caused by interference of one’s native
language
In British accent /r/ is not pronounced in most cases, while in American accent /r/ is pronounced.
As a beginner;Do not distract yourself
between British or American accent.
You can LISTEN more and more, then search, adapt and adopt the best accent that suits you and the context in which you are going to use English.
