Workflow Inspiration My main inspiration for this game was purely space invaders space invaders hence the style of the red enemies, the red enemies are similar to the enemies from space invaders but has moving tentacles. All the objects in the game are my own design made from game maker itself and Photoshop. Player and enemy sprites The player controlled spaceship has a green and blue colour scheme to make it seem friendly and good. The enemy space ships will have a red, yellow and orange colour scheme to it to resemble theme s enemies or “Bad”. The player and enemies will have different laser sprites that they will shoot. The enemies will have different laser sprites that would help the player know which enemy shot at him. The player sprite will emit an orange and yellow ball like sprite from the rear of the ship to flame from the engine. All the sprites has movements to show that they are living alien creatures. Gameplay and Art style The gameplay will be fast placed and will have an exaggeration art style to it. The player will have 8 directional moment to move freely inside the room. All sprites will be destroyed when leaves the room and I have coded it so that the player cannot leave the room. The player will be able to fire one bullet when the fire button (spacebar) is pressed preventing

Gameplay and Art style

The gameplay will be fast placed and will have an exaggeration art style to it. The player will have 8 directional moment to move freely inside the room. All sprites will be destroyed when leaves the room and I have coded it so that the player cannot leave the room. The player will be able to fire one bullet when the fire button (spacebar) is pressed preventing from people holding down the fire button to fire continuously which takes the fun and the challenge out of the game.

The two types of enemies when shot down will give you 20 points which will add to your total score. I have a menu screen with a “play game” button so game doesn’t start straight away when it started. I have made the frequently spawned enemies smaller so it will be a challenge for the player shoot them and increase of the chance of the player missing hi/her shots.The enemies explosions will be exceptionally sized to give an exaggeration look to it. Enemies will be spawned in random positions so the player can’t predict where they will be next. The red enemies will be spawned in threes and the yellow and red much bigger enemies will be spawned one by one at a much slower rate than the red ones. The player

will also have a health bar that would go down when the player gets hit by enemy lasers. The player will be instantly destroyed if he/she collides with an enemy. Looking at the art style I have given it a drawn in and cartoony look to it because of the bright coloured sprites and low definition sprites.

Backgrounds

I have used three backgrounds on this game to give it a 3D look to it. I’ve used a planet as the lowest layer and moving at the lowest speed to make it seem like it’s far away, the next layer is a layer of asteroids with the background of it cut out using Photoshop and used in this layer with a slightly faster speed to make it seem like the asteroids are closer to the player ship than the planet. I also used Photoshop to change the colour of the asteroids slightly so that it matches its background. Then I have used a layer of white dots in different sizes to represent space dirt and all other things to show the real speed of the space ship, to do this I made it move in the opposite direction to the space ship in a higher speed than the asteroids and the planet. I have made the backgrounds that is on top of the 1st background no a have background so that the 1st

background looks like the general atmosphere where the game is set in and the other background layer on top of it looks like objects.

I have made a menu screen for this game with a “play game button” so the player has to press play game to proceed to the next room where the game is and play the game. I have also used a custom curser in the menu screen to make it more colourful, I’ve also made it that when the cursor hovers on the “play game button” the button glows green and it is clickable to proceed to the next room. I’ve also made the menu screen the planet so the game basically resumes o the planet where the player spawns, his gives the player which type of atmosphere the game is going to be in before the game starts.

Music and sounds

I have used different sounds on different enemies and the player. The enemies have different laser shoot sounds so the player will know which enemy just shot a laser. I have used a retro laser beam sound as the laser shoot sound of the player. All explosions sounds of the player are the same because all objects are in the same atmosphere as the player it will make no sense to make it different explosion sounds. The background of the game when the game starts is a minute long dubstep song to give the game a more futuristic and arcade feel to it and the background music is set to loop.

Animations

All enemies have a moving tentacle animation to make them represent living space creatures. The player space ship will always have a fire animation for the engine which will resemble that the player is constantly moving forward, and when player moves around in the room this fire animation will react to its directions showing a bit of realism or gravity setting. All enemies and the player will have destroyed animation which represents an explosion. The player will have a green explosion o show its pure energy and to give it a positive or friendly feeling. The enemy’s explosions will be red orange and yellow as normal.
