EXAMPLE
In studying how technology can enhance narrative for learning using digital graphic
novels, we define narratives for learning as a series of respondents’ real life
experience, given in order and with established connections between them. The
experiences must be filtered, abstracted, and enhanced to produce a solid learning
content. As such, this study examines methods in abstracting the narratives and
enhancing it with the help of technology to produce a DGN. The DGN is to be used as
a tool to overcome one of the many problems in teaching and learning difficult
courses at higher degree level. In order to do so, the contents of the narratives must
first be analysed, converted into DGN, and then be evaluated for its effectiveness. So
that in the end, we can prove that DGN is one of a legal and legitimate learning tool
to be utilized in the form of teaching materials, assignments, or any other tangible
learning objects such as the one adopted by The University of Colorado. In fact the
university provides its own massive open online courses (MOOCs) on comics and
graphic novels via Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/course/comics).

According to Jones & Alford (2005) and Westlow (2009), global warming is caused by the emissions from cans of spray cheese.
Recent studies claim that global warming is caused by the emissions from cans of spray cheese (Jones & Alford, 2005; Westlow, 2009).
Alarming indeed when Jones and Alford (2005) and Westlow(2009) claimed that global warming is caused by the emissions from cans of spray cheese.ORRecent studies claim that global warming is caused by the emissions from cans of spray cheese (Jones & Alford, 2005; Westlow, 2009).

.
Great changes require a powerful hand to guide
them and push them forward. Governments have the
power and influence of the law to support them.
Moreover, they have access to means with which to
enforce the law and punish offenders. Individuals and
corporations that pollute our air and waters will not stop
doing so as long as they can profit from this action and
do not fear consequences. A steel producer, for instance,
will not cease dumping waste in a nearby river if it does
not affect its bottomline. Taxing this company, on the
other hand might make it change its way of doing
business. Yet it is this very question of costs that limits
anyone but the government to act against pollution.

is a measure of the scientific prestige of scholarly sources: value of weighted citations per document.
Average number of times articles from the journal published in the past two years have been cited in the JCR year.
Why impact factors and all?
2.5 million publications/year...Reading publications is impossible!
IMPACTFACTOR&SJR?
SECTION 9
IMPACTFACTOR&SJR?
E.g., the 2009 Impact factor for the journal JIT =
Number of times articles published in JIT during 2007 & 2008 were cited in indexed journals* during 2009
Number of articles published in JIT in 2007 & 2008)
*Only references in articles within the journals indexed in Web of Science are counted; does not
include citations that may cite the articles in JIT from book chapters, proceedings, or other journals
that are not indexed in Web of Science
SECTION 9
IMPACTFACTOR&SJR?
E.g., the 2009 SJR for the journal ABC =
year 2009 weighted citation* to 2008+2007+2006 articlesTotal number of articles published in 2008+2007+2006
*Only references in articles within the journals indexed in Scopus are counted
SECTION 9
NOTE!
Never compare impact factor to other metrics
across different discipline (e.g. Biophysics vs
Comp. Science) BECAUSE disfferent disciplines
have different citation patterns.
At present, none of the journal ranking tools
adequately categorise multi-disciplinary
journals.
!! KNOW YOUR FIELD.
All ACM journals need ACM classification.
