Plug Placement Technique

9-5/8” C/Shoe

• Drill pipe/ tubing is lowered to

desired depth (bottom of

planned plug) in the cased /

open hole

Page 2: cement plug job

• Drill pipe/ tubing is run in

• Mud is circulated thoroughly to

make it homogeneous9-5/8”

• Mud is circulated

• Mud pump stopped

• Pre-flush/ Spacer is pumped

ahead cement slurry to avoid

contamination with mud.

• Drill pipe/ tubing is run in

• Mud is circulated

• Pre-flush/ spacer is pumped

• Cement slurry is pumped

• After-flush is pumped

• Displacement is done with mud

to balance the cement plug.

• Drill pipe/ tubing is run in

• Mud is circulated

• Pre-flush/ spacer is pumped

• Cement slurry is pumped

• After-flush is pumped

• Displacement with mud.

(Metal volume to be considered).

(Slightly under displacement

preferred to avoid backflow)

• Pipe is pulled out slowly off the

cement column.

• In case exact plug top is desired,

string is pulled out up to the

desired cement top only (with

the pipe still inside the cement

column)
