I. SCOPE
This Standard covers general requirements for pipe material.
II. CODE All materials shall comply with material specification/norm specified in Material Requisition.
III. PIPES TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Carbon steel and low alloy steel pipes shall be delivered in double random length. Where the ordered quantity is shorter than double random length, single random length shall be delivered. Pipes in sizes up to 1½ shall be delivered in single random length. Stainless steel pipes shall be delivered in single random length.
B. Pipe shall have no joints.
C. Marking: The marking shall be in accordance with the ASTM A106, A335, A312 or other standard stated on each Material Requisition. Pipes in sizes 1½" and smaller may be supplied in bundles and the marking may be legibly marked on a durable tag securely attached to each bundle.
D. A signed Manufacturer's inspection certificate shall include the following:
- Name of Manufacturer
- Purchase order number, date and item number
- Material specification and grade
- Diameter, schedule number, length quantity
- Heat number or charge number
- Inspection or test number
- Chemical composition
- Hydrostatic test results
- Surface and dimension checks
- Heat treatment information
- Welding procedure approvals
- Welder/welding operator approvals
- Non destructive testing operator qualifications
- Non destructive testing reports

- Mechanical data, certified by the Quality Control department of the pipe Manufacturer, which shall be independent from the production line. Where an independent quality control does not exist, the above mentioned tests are to be witnessed by an independent inspection authority.
- Statement that “material supplied is in full accordance to purchase order requirements”.
- Where “threaded and coupled 3000lbs (NPT per ASME B1.20.1)” is indicated on the Material Requisition of galvanized pipes, EN 10204-3.1 certification is also required for the threaded galvanized couplings supplied together with galvanized pipes.
E. Longitudinally welded pipes are not acceptable in lieu of seamless pipes unless specifically accepted by Purchaser.
F. Peaking for all longitudinally welded pipe shall be limited to 1/8 in. (3mm) maximum, as measured by a template technique approved by the Purchaser.
G. Inside protective coatings like enamel “Japanese Black” are not allowed.
H. Carbon steel shall have a maximum Carbon Equivalent of 0,43 , calculated using the formula: C.E.= C% + Mn%/6 + (Cr%+Mo%+V%)/5 + (Ni%+Cu%)/15
IV. COLOR CODING AND P.M.I.
Pipe supplier must classify and mark alloy pipes for material colour coding and is responsible for the correct application of colour bands before shipping said materials to shop fabricator or fields.
V. WELDING PROCEDURES FOR WELDED PIPES
Where welded pipes are supplied, pipe manufacturer shall provide welding procedures and welding qualifications according to the timelines.
FWI can issue comments on these documents if deviation from Code, contractual documents, good engineering practice are found or receive them from information only. In any case Vendor shall inform FW of any deviation to Codes or other contractual documents.
The supply, fabrication and erection of all pipe work shall comply with the requirements of ANSI B31.1. All butt welds shall be full penetration welds with complete fusion between weld runs and base metal. The following tests shall be carried out on welds (both shop and Site):
- 100 per cent visual examination of all welds to the requirements of the application standard.
- At least 10 per cent ultrasonic or radiographic and surface flow examination on all pipe butt welds and branch welds to the acceptance criteria of the applicable standard.
- At least 10 per cent magnetic particle examination of all fillet welds.
- Hydrostatic test to the requirements of the applicable code.

B. It shall be unquestionably assumed by FWI/Purchaser that, unless Vendor makes specific exceptions in his quotation, all components supplied shall comply exactly with the requirements specified in the Material Requisition and Specifications attached thereto.
C. Vendor must clearly state in his quotation (in a dedicated paragraph headed “Technical Deviation List”) all instances in which the components offered deviates from the Material Requisition and/or Eng. Std’s; including, but not limited to, all differences in duty, mechanical design, codes of fabrication or design, materials of construction and extent of supply.
