Objective :

What is solar cell ?

A Solar cell converts optical energy directly into electrical energy. It is essential a semiconductor device fabricated in a manner which generates a voltage when solar radiation falls on it.Efficiency of solar cell is less; It only converts 30-40% of energy incident on it to electrical energy.

Need to use solar energy : Pollution freeMaintenance freeSilent OperationLong Life time.

Introduction :What is MPPT ? It is an electronic system that operates the photovoltaic modules in a manner to extract the maximum power from the system.

What is Maximum Power Point ? It is a operating point at which maximum power can be extracted from the system. Usually represented as MPP.

The output of solar module is a function of solar irradiance, temperature.Generally MPPT is installed in between PV system and load. Coupling to the load for maximum power transfer may required either providing a higher voltage at lower current or lower voltage at higher current.

Block Diagram :

How Does MPPT Works : PV panel ( solar panel ) takes solar energy from sun and converts to electrical energy. In essence, sunlight on a solar cell creates a small battery with voltages typically to 0.5 V

Buck Converter :A buck converter (step-down converter) is a DC-to-DC power converter which steps down voltage (while stepping up current) from its input (supply) to its output (load).

Boost Converter :A boost converter (step-up converter) is a DC-to-DC power converter that steps up voltage (while stepping down current) from its input (supply) to its output (load).

Advantages :

MPPT method can extract maximum available power from the PV module. This can increase the tracking efficiency.Up to 30% increased charging efficiency. If your energy use is greater in the winter ( typically in most homes ) and you have cold winter weather, then you can gain a substantial boost in energy when you need it most!

Conclusion :PV system getting more significance due to and load for impedance shortage and environmental impact of matching conventional fuelsworks good under rapidly changing environment condition and also achieves Controlled MPPT PV system a decrease in oscillation at MPP.This results in low operational life of the battery.

Future work :Fast switching components are necessary to operate the device intended for solar system racing. The component choice is key in the design of the MPPT. High power efficiency is attained by systematically researching and selecting the right components.
