PHYSICS PROJECT WORK

ON WORKING OF

RO AND UV WATER

PURIFIER

Page 2: RO and UV water purifier comparison

WATER PURIFICATIONWATER PURIFICATION means that water is free from bacterial contaminants and viruses .This include chemical contaminants such as CHLORINE,LEAD and MERCURY.Purifying water may reduce the concentration of particulate matter including suspended particles, parasites, bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, as well as reducing the amount of a range of dissolved and particulate material derived from the surfaces that come from runoff due to rain.THAT IS WHY WATER PURIFIERS ARE USED.

Water Purifier RO Versus UV

How RO works ?Uses membranes to purify

water.

High pressure pump to increase the pressure on the salt side of the RO and force the water across membrane.

Remove the minutest of impurities such as arsenic, nitrates, sodium.

Page 5: RO and UV water purifier comparison

For what type of waterRO purifier suitable

For heavily salinated, hard water RO purifier is best suitable .

Underground has a higher concentration of TDS(total dissolved salts) it is advisable to install an RO-based water purifier.

Page 6: RO and UV water purifier comparison

Reverse Osmosis (RO)Disadvantages

Not effective as the ultraviolet filters against bacteria and viruses.

Lots of wastage water produced.

On breakage of membrane impurities and bacterial can easily pass through it.

Page 7: RO and UV water purifier comparison

How UV works ?Uses UV radiation.

UV radiation to deactivate bacteria, virus, disease-causing organisms.

Page 8: RO and UV water purifier comparison

For what type of waterUV purifier suitable

Lakes, rivers, and harvested rain water has a lower concentration of TDS.

For these type of water UV-based purifier is

recommended.

Page 9: RO and UV water purifier comparison

Ultraviolet (UV) Disadvantages

Little use in eliminating other contaminants in water such as chlorine, heavy metals

Water being treated must be free of color and muddiness.

Kills all germs including viruses, but their bodies remain in the water

Suitable for Underground water

Lake, municipal supply water

Removing dissolved salts

Removing bacteria, viruses

Moderate Effective

Running Cost More Expensive Less Expensive

Total cost ExpensivePrice: Rs 9,000-

25,000

CheaperPrice: Rs 3,000-

ConclusionIf treated water is

underground water go for RO based purifier.

If treated water is lake or municipal supply water go for UV based purifier.
