Where Artificial Intelligence Meets The Real World?

ROBOTICS

Page 2: robotics

•It is the branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.

WHAT IS ROBOTICS ?

Page 3: robotics

WHAT IS A ROBOT ?•“A re-programmable, multifunctional manipulator designed to move materials, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks.”

WHEN WAS THE FIRST ROBOT USED?

1921 - The term "robot" was first used in a play called "R.U.R." or "Rossum's Universal Robots" by the Czech writer Karel Capek

ISAAC ASIMOV'S THREE LAWS OF ROBOTICS

•First Law A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.•Second Law A robot must obey orders given it by human being.•Third Law A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Page 5: robotics

A ROBOT MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS:•Mobility•Programmability•Sensors•Mechanical capability•Flexibility

Page 6: robotics

•Time Efficiency -Being able to work all three shifts-No absenteeism•Safety -Reductions of accidents•Higher Quality -More precise• Increased Outputs-Higher speeds and consistent cycles

•Reliability•Reduces manufacturing lead time•Ease of use -Simple control panels •Flexibility-Capable of multiple tasks

ADVANTAGES

Page 7: robotics

•Higher Initial Costs-Sophisticated machinery-Installation and machine setup•High Maintenance-Complex components-Repairs

•Takes away human jobs

DISADVANTAGES
