INTRODUCTION

• A mobile operating system , also called a mobile OS , is an operating system that is specifically designed to run on mobile devices such as mobile phones , smartphones , PDAs , tablet computers and other handheld devices

• Sailfish is being developed by Jolla in permanent cooperation with the Sailfish community.

HISTORY

• Sailfish 2.0 is currently in development for mobiles and the announced Jolla Tablet.

• Sailfish OS 2.0 is developed with a continuous integration model, with the aim to provide monthly software updates to all Sailfish OS users and development partners.

What is Sailfish OS?

• Sailfish OS was launched on 27 nov 2013 at finland

• Qt ("cute", or unofficially as Q-T cue-tee[) is a cross-platform application framework that is widely used for developing application software .

• Qt is used mainly for developing application software with graphical user interfaces (GUIs)

• QML (Qt Meta Language or Qt Modeling Language) is a user interface markup language

• It is a Java-based, language for designing user interface.

• QML is a ls also called as Qt markup language having extension .qml

ARCHITECTURE

• Mer is free and open source s/w ; powered by Qt/QML and HTML5. this project is openly developed.

• It is the middle layer of architecture

• Mer is not an operating system, it is aimed to be one component of an operating system based on the Linux kernel.

• Mer is a part of the operating system above the linux kernel and below the graphical user interface.

• Mer can be compiled for a number of instruction sets.
