Introduction.
What is E paper?
Construction of E paper.
How it work?
Which company provide the technology?
Advantage?
Disadvantage?3
Introduction-
The first E paper is developed in 1974’s by Nicholas k Sheridon at research center.
E paper is also call electronic paper or electronic ink display.
It is a display unit.
E paper have wide viewing angle.
E paper is flexible.
A digital pen is also used to create handwritten document.
4
What is E paper-
E paper is electronic ink display unit.
It reflect light like ordinary paper.
It is capable of holding text and images.
It is flexible while using plastic material and electronic.
It is more comfortable to read than conventional display.
It have light weight and durable.
It have low power consumption.5
For what E paper used for-
Application such as-
E book
Electronic newspaper
Fashion
Foldable display
7
Construction of E paper-
It has two different parts.
Front plane
Back plane
The front plane consist of E-ink.
The back plane consist of electronic circuits.
Back plane is made up of organic thin film transistor arrays which provide voltage needed by the E paper.
8
E-Ink:->
E-ink is made up of million of tiny
micro round cell, about the diameter
of a human hair.
Each microcell contain +ve charged
white particles and –ve charged black
particles suspended.
10
Gyricon -
it was first electronics paper and was developed in 1970’s.
Consist of polyethylene spheres having diameter 75-106 micrometer.
Each spheres is a janus particle composed of negative charged black plastic on one side and positively charged white plastics on the other.
These spheres are embedded in transparent silicone made sheet, with sphere suspended in a bubble of oil so that they can rotate freely.
The polarity of the voltage applied to each pair of electrodes then determines whether the white or black side is face-up, thus giving the pixel a white or black appearance.
13
Electrophoretic-
Each E-ink cell contains on only solution containing black dye (the electron ink)
Cell (Capsule) diameter is 40 micrometer.
Gap between the two conduction plates is of the order of 100 micrometer and the mixture is placed between these plates.
14
When the particles are located at the front (viewing) side
of the display, it appears white, because light is scattered
back to the viewer by the high-index titania particles.
When the particles are located at the rear side of the
display, it appears dark, because the incident light is
absorbed by the colored dye.
15
Which company provide the technology-
Delta electronics
LG
NEC
Plastic logic
Samsung
E ink holding , Flexible EPLaR
16
Comparison of E-paper and LCD:->
Electronic ink display
1. Wide viewing angle
2. Readable in sunlight
3. Hold images without power drain
4. Plastic or glass
5. Light weight
6. Thin (~ 1 mm)
Liquid crystal display
1. Best image only from one position
2. Can be difficult to see
3. Required power to hold images
4. Glass only
5. LCD’s relatively heavy
6. 6 thick (~ 6 mm)
20
Advantages-
Low power use.
Battery life of several month on small battery.
Cheap to manufacture.
Applicable to replace existing monitors and LCD
screen.
Easy portability.
Flexibility.
21
Conclusion-
Researches found that in just few years this
technology can replace paper in many
situation , leading us to think of a truly
paperless world.
