Introduction:

• Data and information fusion (DIF) involves a process of combining data and information from multiple Inputs.

• DIF techniques were first introduced to the research community in the 1970s.

• The Joint Directors of Laboratories data fusion (JDL DF) model is possibly the most widely used model for data fusion.

Data Fusion Models Introduced

1. The Intelligence Cycle

2. The Boyd Control Loop

3. The Waterfall Model

4. The Dasarathy's Model.

5. The JDL Data Fusion Model.

The JDL Data Fusion Model

• It is a functional model developed with the aim of facilitating coordination and cooperation among diverse data fusion communities to identify and solve problems to which data fusion can be applied.

• It consists of five levels namely Level-0,Level-1,Level-2, Level-3,Level-4

Levels:

1. Level 0 (Sub-Object Data Assessment)–estimation and prediction of observable states of signals or features;

2. Level 1 (Object Assessment)–estimation and prediction of entity states based on data association, as well as continuous and discrete state estimation;

3. Level 2 (Situation Assessment)–estimation and prediction of relationships among entities;

4. Level 3 (Impact Assessment)–estimation and prediction of effects of entities’ actions on goals/missions;

5. Level 4 (Process Refinement)–an element of Resource Management that encompasses adaptivity in the data collection and fusion processes to support mission objectives.

Applications

1. Strategic/Tactical Defence.

2. Computer/Information Security

3. Crisis/Disaster Management

4. Fault Detection and Identification/Diagnosis

5. Biomedical Applications/Informatics

6. Environment

7. Industrial Applications
