Green computing is the term used to denote efficient use of resources in computing .
Green Computing is “ Where organizations adopt a policy of ensuring that the setup and operations of Information Technology produces the minimal carbon footprint”
Goal of green computing
1. to cut down to as little as possible the amount of energy used.
2. to minimize the inclusion of harmful materials.
3. to use as many biodegradable materials as possible.
4. to extend as far as possible the life of the equipment.
HISTORY OF GREEN COUMPUTING
Green computing movement was the launch of the Energy Star program way back in 1992.
One of the first results of green computing was the Sleep mode function of computer monitors which places a consumer's electronic equipment on standby mode.
As the concept developed, green computing began to encompass thin client solutions, energy cost accounting, virtualization practices, eWaste, etc.
What is green building?
Green building refers to both a structure and the using of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.
FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF GREEN BUILDING
1. STRUCTURE DESIGN EFFICENCY
2. WATER EFFICIENCY3. ENERGY EFFICIANCY4. MATERIAL EFFICIANCY5. WASTE AND TOXIC
REDUCTION
Some concepts of green building
1. Develop design plans for the building itself.
2. Orient and design building to site needs, climate, and local conditions
3. Maximize the use of natural daylight
4. Investigate building materials.
5. Reuse existing materials, use fewer materials, and use building materials that are considered to be environmentally friendly.
Some concepts of green building
6. Design for healthy indoor air quality.7. Set high lighting-efficiency standards.8. Select appliances that are energy efficient
and save on water use.9. Design for ease of maintenance and use of
environmentally friendly cleaning products.10. Maintain structural and building systems
for maximum energy and environmental
BENEFITS OF GREEN BULIDING
1. Buildings have the large effect on environment , human health and economy.
2. The successful adoption of green of green development can maximize both the economic and environmental performance of building
Benefits to Retailers with eco ATM’s
• The e-Cycling Station is set up completely free.
• Redemption dollars from the trade-in can be spent in stores.
• No store staff or management required for promotion or transaction.
• Automated e-Waste reporting with ecoATM compliance expertise.
Economical benefits of eco atm
• 500,000 pounds of devices – three space shuttles worth of plastics, metals and potentially toxic materials
• 70,000 pounds of copper – enough to create a second Statue of Liberty (made of 62,000 pounds of copper) and still have extra
• 1,544 pounds of silver – enough to create 22,540 American Eagle silver dollar coins (made of .0685 pounds of silver)
conclusion• Ensure that these policies are appropriate to our operations, and our potential
environmental impacts and health and safety risks• Comply with all relevant EH&S legal requirements, customer and product
requirements, industry guidelines and any other EH&S commitments made by eco-ATM
• Strive to prevent workplace injuries by providing a safe environment for employees, contractors and visitors
• Investigate any workplace accidents, illnesses and near misses, and promptly correct any unsafe conditions or practices
• Set and review EH&S goals• Promote pollution prevention and resource conservation in all of our operations• Ensure that our EH&S system and policies are communicated and understood by
all persons working for or on behalf of ecoATM• Make the EH&S policy available to the public• Review and amend this EH&S policy, as necessary and appropriate
WHAT IS MICROBIAL FUEL-CELL?
• A microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a bio-electrochemical device
• the power of respiring microbes to convert organic substrates directly into electrical energy.
• At its core, the MFC is a fuel cell, which transforms chemical energy into electricity using oxidation reduction reactions.
CONSTRUCTION OF MICROBIL FUEL-CELL?• A typical microbial fuel cell consists of
anode and cathode compartments separated by a cation (positively charged ion) specific membrane
• In the anode compartment, fuel is oxidized by microorganisms, generating CO2, electrons and protons
• Electrons are transferred to the cathode compartment through an external electric circuit.
• Electrons and protons are consumed in the cathode compartment, combining with oxygen to form water.
Types of microbial fuel-cell?
Mediator microbial fuel cell Mediator free microbial fuel
cell Microbial electrolysis cell Soil based microbial fuel cell Phototrophic bio-film
microbial fuel cell Nanoporus membrane
microbial fuel cell
Soil based microbial fuel cell
Soil-based microbial fuel cells has the same basic MFC principles whereby soil acts as the nutrient-rich anodic media.
The anode is placed at a certain depth within the soil.
while the cathode rests on top the soil and is exposed to the oxygen in the air above it.
Sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) application for wastewater treatment is a relatively new field.
SMFCs with simple structures can generate electrical energy while decontaminating wastewater
• Solar power aircraft is aircraft which works on a solar powered electric panels
• It consist of solar panels on top which absorb solar power
• Solar power is converted into electrical power which act as a fuel
What is solar aircraft?

What is green car?
• Green cars are cars which are more environmentally friendly than conventional cars. It is usually how the car is fuelled which determines whether or not it is a green car.
Why Have Green Cars Been Developed?
• A conventional car works using an internal combustion engine which burns fuel to create motion.
• The burning of fossil fuel results in the emission of greenhouse gases
• Crude oil destroys natural habitats and kills wildlife.
These factors have led to the development of ‘green’ cars
FEATURES OF HYBRID• Regenerative Braking : • Electric Motor Drive/Assist : • Automatic Start/Shutoff :
