THE POWER AND
CERTAINTY OF
GOD’S
PROMISE1 Kings 8: 56;
Hebrew 6: 13, 14 , 17-19
Today, the CHIRISTIAN PROFESSIONAL FELLOWSHIP (ChrisProFel) jubilantly commemorated its 25th Founding Anniversary. On this joyful occasion, the members of this ever active Church Recognized Organization demonstrated their 25 solid years of performing Church Religious Works and Social activities in serving our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ through the Theme, “Standing on the Promises of God.”
POWER OF GOD’S PROMISES
I don’t need to tell you that we live in a world that is filled with doubts and with difficulties, with uncertainties, with frustrations and fear and insecurity.
Newspapers, radio and televisions remind us of how discouraging and how depressing the news of the day can be. On the international scene, there are problems of political unrest of all sorts. There’s the continuing real threat of terrorism, and even a lingering threat of war.
On the national scene, there are political scandals and corruption in our government at the highest level. There’s economic unrest. On the local level, you know, we have the problem here locally of crime and violence. We have deeply concerns about our environment relative to the ill effect of the global warming.
All of these things, and more, tend to keep us “off balance”, keep us on sort of an “unsure footing” in our individual lives. It’s often difficult to get solid footing—to get a good basis to stand upon.
KEY WORD IN THE THEME
“Standing
”
be “remain motionless, or steady; to take
up or maintain a position; to
remain firm, or steadfast; to be
located, or situated.”
KEY WORD IN THE THEME
“Standing
”
These definitions may invoke in your mind the idea of a foundation, a firm
footing, a solid base. This may also suggest the idea of security, which is the opposite of insecurity and uncertainty.
KEY WORD IN THE THEME
“Promises
”
“Promises”, according to the
New Bible Dictionary, are “words that go
forward into unfilled time.”
KEY WORD IN THE THEME
“Promises
”
These words reach ahead of
their speaker and ahead of their
recipient to make an appointment
between them for some time in the
future.
Promise is the essential element, the heart of the Covenant between God and man.
A covenant is an unchangeable, divinely imposed legal agreement between God and man that stipulates the conditions of their relationship. “I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (Jer. 31:33; 2 Cor. 6:16 )
TYPES OF PROMISES
“an assurance of continuing or future action”
solemn agreement of a lasting and mutual relationship
announcement of some future event
