HOW WE CELEBRATE

CHRISTMAS IN SCOTLAND.

1. ADVENT CALENDAR They count the days until

Christmas.

We open them every day.

There is a surprise or a chocolate or a toy inside.

2. CHRISTMAS LISTS

We make Christmas lists to Santa telling him what we would like for Christmas.

We are only allowed to write a short list.

3. MAKE A GINGERBREAD HOUSE

A Gingerbread house is made out of ginger and is decorated with sweets.

We eat it after Christmas dinner.

They are really fun to make.

4. CHRISTMAS TREE

We put a Christmas Tree in our house and decorate it with bobbles, tinsel and lights.

We put an Angel or a Star on the top of the tree.

We put gifts under the tree.

5. SEND THE LIST TO SANTA

The lists for Santa that we made earlier get sent up the chimney so Santa can read them.

You have to be good to get your gifts!.

6. GIFTS FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS

We can make gifts and get gifts from family and friends.

We go shopping for the gifts.

We can make the gifts.

We can give unused toys to others as gifts.

7. HANG THE STOCKINGS UP

We hang stockings by the fire.

Santa drops down the chimney to put the gifts into the stockings.

8. COOKIES!

We leave Cookies and Milk for Santa so when he comes down the chimney he gets a treat.

We leave Carrots outside so Santa’s reindeer can get a snack while they are waiting for Santa to drop off the gifts.

9. GIFTS FROM SANTA

We get gifts from Santa, that are from our lists.

The gifts are made by Santa’s elves.

We open them up in the morning on Christmas day.

They are in our stockings.

10. CHRISTMAS DINNER

The traditional dinner in Scotland is Turkey, potatoes, carrots and brussel sprouts.

No-one likes brussel spouts!. We get Christmas pudding, and we get

Christmas crackers. They are a special thing we open with a partner, they go bang!. There is a surprise and a joke inside!
