ALPHALITE

CONCEPT• The concept is an eye-catching short action/scifi film. My USP’s are that it’s got both

action and some more sensitive parts as well as a massive twist to end. This combination makes the audience go threw multiple emotions and keeps their attention.

NARRATIVE OUTLINE• Alphalite is about 2 people (Abi and Levi) who escape the city and head into the woods

away from the advancing intruders. These intruders are looking for the Alphalite rocks that are under the earths surface but will destroy anything that gets in their way. They have destroyed whole towns and cities whilst trying to find the rocks. The intruders need the rocks in order to prolong their lives. Levi the lead character gets bitten by one of the intruders and it changes his life forever.

SCRIPT• Alphalite script.

• Voice over:• “It’s been 3 years after the discovery of alphalite and 4 months since the arrival of the intruders. Whole towns and cities destroyed for one rock, a rock that holds

the key to the revolution of the intruders.”• Int. Woods• Levi : ( out of breath ) “ stay here”• Levi leans out from behind a tree.

• Abby: (Out of breath)• Levi: “I think we’ve lost them”• Abby: (sigh of relief) “What are they?”• Levi: “No one knows what they are and where they came from all we do know is they are after the alphalite”• Abby: “Alphalite? But why?”• Levi: “ The crystal shards inside the alphalite rock act as a sort of solid case in which energy can be stored, add that to their body structure and they can live for

years on one rock”• Abby: “So they need it to survive?” “ So why don’t we just destroy all the alphalite?”• Levi pears round from behind the tree and instantly leans back in and puts his hand on Abby’s mouth.

• Levi: “Ssshhh”• Abby: (muffled screams)• Levi slowly takes his hand of Abby’s mouth. Abby is still in shock.

• Levi: “Don’t move a muscle”• Abby: (silent/ quietly crying)• Levi’s radio go off

• Levi: “No.”, “Dam it”• Abby: “Turn it off”

• Levi: “I’m trying”

• Levi Turns off the radio

• Levi + Abby: (Sigh of relief)

• Abby: “We’re going to die, aren’t we?”

• Levi Puts his hands on Abby’s face

• Levi: “ Look at me, I’m gunna get us out of here alive I promise”

• sLevi turns to see a grenade roll next to him

• Levi: “Run!”

• Levi and Abby are both lead on the ground covered in dirt. Levi rolls over towards Abby.

• Levi: “Are you ok?”

• Abby: (no response)

• Levi rolls Abby over and she starts breathing and gasps for air

• Levi: “You had me scared for a minute then”

• Abby: (stares forward)

• Levi slowly rolls over to see and intruder pointing a gun at him. Abby is frozen with shock.

• Levi: “I’m sorry Abby, I never meant to get you into this mess but I hoped I’d get you out of it, and I’ve failed”

• Abby closes her eyes. A gun shot is fired. Abby re-opens her eyes.

• Adam: “Just thought I pop down and help you two out, looked like you had yourselves in a bit of tricky situation”, “ My names Adam by the way, I’ve been looking after these woods for years, it’s kind of become my home ”

• Abby gets up and hugs Adam

• Adam: “steady on”.• Levi walks over to the Intruders body

• Levi: “ I’ve never seen anything like it”• Adam: “ These woods are full of them, I think there must be tones of alphalite in the rocks below us that they are after”• Abby: “Is it dead?”• Adam: “Yep, one shot to the central lobe of the brain usually does it”• The intruder reaches out and scratches Levi’s leg.

• Levi: “I thought you said it was dead”• Adam looks down through the woods

• Adam: “ you better go there will be more coming soon, just remember to stay out of sight”• Abby starts walking off.

• Abby: “Levi, come on”• Levi’s vision and hearing is blurred and he can’t walk properly. He collapses to the ground.

• Abby: (muffled words) “Levi, can you hear me”• Adam: (muffled words) “Stay with us buddy”• Abby: (muffled words) “ Come on Levi, don’t give up know, you promised me”• Levi closes his eyes. He then re-opens them and they are red.

CASTING/ COSTUME/ MAKE UPThe cast for the short film included:

Costumes:

• Intruder wore a black jacket, Black trousers, large boots, a gas mask with a balaclava on underneath and he carried a submachine gun and 2 grenades.

• Adam, Levi and Abi wore normal clothing.

Make up:

• Abi had a cut over her left eye and on the left side of her cheek and Levi had a cut on his right cheek. Both characters also had make up added to make them look a bit dirty and tired. When Levi get scratched there is a large cut on his leg which is bleeding. All the make up was done by Ellie Hogg.

LOCATIONS• The short film short in the woods at the top of keynsham.

FEEDBACKI entered ‘Alphalite’ into the Yobi.tv film competition and it has got through to the finals. It is in the final 20 short films and voting for the winner starts in November. I have also had over 300 views on YouTube in less than a month.
