A 12 A is the the age for a film that is suited for 12 year olds. It also means that a child under 12 is allowed to watch it if accompanied with an adult. 12 A is only used for films and is not used for DVDs.

When a film has a 12 on it it means that it is not suitable for children under 12. This is because the film may contain unsuitable scenes for someone

under 12 and it may have themes in it that parents do not want their children to see. The difference

between a 12 and a 12a is that an adult can accompany someone under 12 to a 12a but not to a 12. Also a 12 certificate is found on a DVD when

a 12a isn’t.

• An 18 rated film has a lot stronger themes compared to 15. 18 rated films have extreme violence, several uses of drugs and sexual themes because of these themes only people aged 18 and over are allowed to view them.
