Editing

The Jump cut is the most common cut in music videos a long with the normal standard cut. The jump is used to changed from one location to another in the video, and from the artists to the instruments.

Editing is very important in a video as it helps to keep

the video flowing and the editing should be linked into the beats of the song.

Mise-en-scene

This all depends on what that song is about. Mise-en-scene is reflected through;

Lighting; Extreme artificial lighting is very common is most videos. This helps to enhance the look of the band/artist, this is mainly used in pop videos. Light switching helps with the change from the verse to the chores. Lighting can also be used to show different feeling in the video, if the lighting is dark then you get a darker feeling compared to high lighting.

Props; In music videos these tend to be instruments.

Costume; Costumes help to reflect the genre of the band/artist. And some can be used as star image (Lady gaga)

Colour; Colour helps to show the mood of the song. Bright colours gives a happy feel, and darker colours connotes a darker tone.

Sound; Mainly the sound is the song, but some music videos are short film (lady gaga) with acting at the start and in the middle. Meaning the sounds that will be hear will be diagetic and non-diagetic.

Main Conventions for indie

In indie music videos, it tends to be calm and changes with the beat of the music. There sometimes black and white, also with a narrative.

Most of the videos have close ups, showing that the artists do everything for them selves. And nearly all indie videos have the band/artists playing instruments.
