The Front of House aspect of the show was aesthetically professional. Signs and posters were made indicating the Box Office and Entrance and indicated the night’s showing. This transformed the college reception into a theatre foyer. Giving the audience a professional first impression of the venue and the performance. The customer service of the Front of House team was also exceptional and gave the audience a welcoming no expense spared feel.

Although the radio mics the cast used were poor, I believe the crew should be commended for how they coped with the unfortunate obstacle of faulty equipment. All Mic changes happened promptly and quickly with no issues. The mics were also fitted correctly and, when they were working, picked up the singers voice approopriately.

The lighting design for the show was very simple, however this was really effective. It was in keeping with the American theme of red white and blue, using appropriate gels. The simple transitions between each scene and t throughout the dance pieces, only enhanced the performance, rather than distract from it.

The Communication between the Stage Manager and the Crew was effective. Each crew member knew their responsibilities throughout the show, and each time circumstances changed, the Stage Manager huddled the crew and delegated new tasks, keeping the crew organised at all times.

Customers were unhappy with the inconsistency of the refreshments on each of the nights. Cloudy Lemonade was served on the opening night, and squash on the others. Audience members that appeared on more than one night were not impressed with this.

To combat this, more planning is needed from the Front of House Team as to what refreshments will be needed and enough needs to be purchased for all three nights.

The seating arrangements were set out in a cabaret style with circular tables and red table cloths. This was not only unnecessary considering the nature of the show ‘Footloose’, it also lead to complications when parties of more than 8 people wanted to sit together, as each table could not hold them, so certain members of the audience were taking chairs from the tables.

This would not have been an issue had we had tiered seating. We could have therefore sold more tickets and used the space more effectively. Also, there are no thematic implications with tiered seating, so this would not be questioned by the audience.

Once the theatre capacity had been decided, more tickets were sold. Therefore more seats had to be laid out, which were not in keeping with the round tables so certain members of the audience felt left out of the experience and this did not look aesthetically consistent.

To overcome this, once the seating capacity has been decided, only said amount of tickets should be printed, so then there cannot possibly be a risk of overselling tickets.

The Microphones used on this show were faulty. They often cut out and lost frequency with the ariel meaning that the performers’ voices were either not picked up, or were crackling mid scene/song. This then effected the quality of the performance and made the singers sound worse then they were.

To combat this, quite simply, new Mics need to be purchased. Although they are expensive and may cause an issue in terms of budget restraints, ultimately it would be a worthwhile purchase as this would not only look but sound professional
