Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

Research: Firstly I had to do some research into classifications and

audience statistics for the genre of my film (Horror). I did this to help me decide the audience for my film .

Research:

- A12 classification contains: Moderate violent, the use of a weapon, dangerous behavior throughout and could contain strong language but not frequently.

- A 15 classification contains: Strong violence throughout, frequent strong language throughout, drug taking of some characters and brief nudity in some scenes.

- A 18 classification contains: Very strong violence throughout, frequent strong language throughout, sexual violence in some scenes, strong horror and strong use blood and gore throughout.

Further research: I also did some research into which gender is most

likely to consume a horror film. Therefore meaning which gender is most likely to watch my horror film.

As a result I found that 42% of men and 58% of women watch horror films. This gave me a basic idea of which gender is most popular to watch horror films and made me consider the gender my audience would be, if I had to choose a more specific audience.

My film Classification: I came to the conclusion that the classification of my film

should be a due to it containing Violence within the whole film, Moderate swearing throughout, brief nudity and a complex story line.

When I was choosing the classification for my film I took into consideration the whole film and not just the opening. This is because the opening of my film would be a different classification to the rest of the film. However you are not allowed to have a change in classification between the opening and the whole film. Therefore I had to choose a classification that was right for the whole of the film.

Therefore the audience for my film would most likely be 15-24 year old due to our classification and research.

The gender My film is aimed at: I decided that the gender my film is aimed at is

mainly women because of the research that I found, showing that more women watch horror films than men do. However this does not mean that my film is not targeted for men, I would only choose the gender for my targeted audience if I had to choose a more specific audience.

I have achieved this by using a young female main character so that the implied audience of women between the age of 15-24 will be able to relate to the main character in many different ways.

My audience:

Overall the audience I have aimed for is15-24 year olds, who will mainly be women. This is due to the research I found. However the actual audience for my horror film could be anyone over the age of 15 with an interest in horror films.
