What are film genre conventions• Genre conventions are typical or standard features of a film that links with genre, factors that including plot, character, setting, theme or even effects.

• For instance, movies that belong to the crime would usually include violence and swearing. The same way horror movies include blood and jump scares.

• All these factors help the audience identify which films belong to which genre. These help emphasise the mood the narrative is trying to achieve, it gives a sense of realism and adds another aspect of authenticity to the audience

Crime Genre Conventions• Crime Genres often involve actions of violence and an

involvement of blood and gore. The particular set of props, help convey the genre to the audience. Weapons like guns, knives, brass knuckles. I believe crime movies always have a more complex plot and usually involve a theme of “debt”. Particularly in the movies of Guy Ritchie, which usually involves the characters striving to gather money to pay the antagonist.

• All crime movies display illegal acts, presenting the rebellious ideology through the personality of he characters. The main protagonist is usually a male that has a difficult upbringing. Crime movies usually involve a cast that shows greater importance compared to movies belonging to other genres. For example, in movies such as ‘Pulp Fiction’ or ‘Goodfellas’ there is a much larger cast, more like a team although other movies like ‘The Terminator’ Or ‘Indiana Jones’ focus mainly on an individual.

Comedy Genre Conventions• Comedy often involves actors playing characters with silly facial expressions and loose body language. There are recurring character types. The character who isn’t so bright and shows their lack of intelligence on screen. The stereo typical smart character, often referred to as a ‘nerd’ and is socially awkward. Also the average character although receives constant bad luck and get themselves into accidents.

• Comedy movies often show a lot of visual comedy, this is where the props come to play. In a comedy it becomes humorous for a character to feel pain for example, falling down the stairs. This is the set up for the punch line which is the goofy facial expressions. Also the use of witty dialogue between each character. Swearing or cursing also plays a vital role in comedy, presenting the informality of the movie to the audience.
