Media Questions: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? There are many different media institutions that we could distribute or product. However, I believe that the best company is Film4 productions. Film4 is a British company who focus on producing new movies. As Film4 show new and upcoming talent, I believe that our movie will be suitable to be distributed by Film4 as it is a British company and our movie is only for a British audience. Another reason as to why I think Film4 would be best fit for our movie is because most of the films distribute are British made, independent films with low funding. Our film is not a heavily funded film as it is more like an independent film which would be shown locally to the younger adult audience. Most films that Film4 has shown that have the same target audience as us have allowed upcoming actors to advance in the industry. For example, in Attack the Block, the main character John Boyega has been able to take part in documentaries and also take part in other movies. Attack the Block is a perfect example of a film that has been distributed by Film4 that has the same target audience as our film and it addressed them perfectly. I think this because the distributer is British based they were able to advertise the film in the correct places in which the majority of the film’s target audience are. Attack the block’s film premier was done at the Ritzy cinema in Brixton where a lot of the target audience had easy access to the location. Another institution that may be good to distribute our movie is Studio Canal an independent film institution which has recently produced a film similar to ours called “In Fear”. This is because the movie follows a couple young couple who start to learn new things about each other as they go on in the relationship which is similar to our product as the movie focuses on Danny and Sarah relationship. This film, like our media product has few characters around it and the main focus is the couple. I don’t think that our movie would be suitable for distributors such as Warner Bros, Paramount or Sony Pictures as they are big franchises and they distribute heavy funded films such as Fast and Furious. Media Questions:

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

For example, in Attack the Block, the main character John Boyega has been able to take part in documentaries and also take part in other movies.Attack the Block is a perfect example of a film that has been distributed by Film4 that has the same target audience as our film and it addressed them perfectly.

Furthermore, our movie’s target audience are British and therefore all the dialect used and the costumes worn and the characters’ surroundings are one that only Young British adults would understand. As these institutions are more viral and worldwide, I think that they may not be suitable for our movie.

Question 5: How did you attract/ address your audience?

Dialect – The dialect used in the movie relates to our target audience as the words used are ones that mostly our target audience only would understand. Although, we haven’t really done much speaking in our two minute opening, we have made sure that throughout our movie, the “lingo” used by the characters would be one that may be harder to understand by an older generation, who do not live in the city of London. However, it would be one that would be understood by teenagers within our target audience who live in London. This is because if the characters used words that they deem as “posh” then it will mean that they may think that our movie is be “out-of-touch” with them and they may automatically, no longer be interested in our movie. Our target audience would prefer to listen to characters who say things such as:

Costume: Our characters’ dress sense I believe is an important way of attracting our target audience as I think that if the character wore clothing that make them look completely different to the members of our target audience then they may feel as though they are unable to relate to the characters. For example, if our characters were dressed like the ones in Downton Abbey, they may feel as though the situation the characters are in is completely different from the ones that they are in or could get into as they would feel that the characters live a completely different life from them. This is because somebody’s dress code says a lot about a person or how they person is perceived by others.

Surrounding/Mise En Scene:

The setting of our movie attracts our characters as it is an area with buildings and vehicles that members of our target audience are familiar with. If the film was set in a rural area, the audience may think that because they live in a different area, they must live different lives and therefore, they would feel as though they do not have anything in common. Also, the vehicles in the opening and those that would appear in the remainder of the movie, are ones that are affordable to our target audience or to their families. They are not cars that they cannot afford or ones that they aspire to get but it is very unlikely that they would get it-these may be cars that celebrities have.Additionally, the buildings are not grand as there not much grand in most parts of London apart from Central London. This means that as the target audience may feel familiar with the buildings that appear in the movie, they would feel more scared as they feel that it is more likely to happen to them as well as they have easy access to such buildings and it is more likely for these events to occur to them.

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Sony Camera: We used the HDV Sony camera in order to shoot our movie. I haven’t previously used this camera before so it was pretty hard to figure out how to use it. The emergent day at school allowed me to have an idea of how to work the camera but I was still a bit unsure when we started filming for our final product. It wasn’t until we actually started filming, that I got the handle of working and fixing some of the issues that were occurring with camera whilst we were filming. For example, there were times when the lighting was too bright for our genre and we wanted to change that. However, because we didn’t know what to do, I volunteered to go through the camera and find a possible solution.

Microphone: We realised that we needed a microphone in order for our characters and the different sounds in the scenes to be heard. This is because we wanted it meant that our movie wouldn’t be silent and that the audience would actually be able to hear things when watching the movie. We used a microphone muffler in order to isolate the sounds that we need from the other sounds that are not really supposed to make it in the scene.

Tripod: A tripod is a portable three-legged frame, used as a platform for supporting and maintaining the stability of some the camera. The tripod provided stability against downward forces and horizontal forces and movements about horizontal axes. The positioning of the three legs away from the vertical centre allows the tripod better leverage for resisting lateral forces.

Different presentational websites: Although I had previously done media in my secondary school, I wasn’t aware of the various websites that could be used as a way of presenting our coursework. So when we were told that we would have had to post our work on various websites, I was unsure about which websites to use and how to actually use them. However, as time went on my knowledge on which websites to use expanded and I was able to use different websites to present my work. Furthermore, as not all the websites are user friendly, it was hard for me to know what to do when attempting to use the websites. An example of a website that is like this is Mixbook, this was hard to use because the navigation buttons and guidelines were not very clear. By the end of the coursework I was able to use different websites such as: Mixbook, Prezi, Slideshare, Powtoons, Youtube, Slide.es, Padlet, info.gram and others.

Final cut express: I had previously used Final Cut Express when I was in secondary school so I was aware of some of the techniques needed to when editing. However, because I didn’t have to put as much effects in, I was unsure and struggled a bit when it came to changing the lighting, adding and changing volumes of sound and music. To help me figure out how to do this, I asked for help from the media technician, youtube and other students who were experienced with the software. Using Final Cut Express allowed me to know how to crop shots, change the lighting, insert titles and effects and how to render our production.

One of the videos I used in order to help better my understanding of using Final Cut Express was http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_795769&feature=iv&src_vid=QOTodkjB8KQ&v=j4rjPFdrZyw

Question 7:

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in progression from it to the full product?

Camera used:

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

We have used various forms and conventions that have been used in real media products. For example we used techniques that keep the suspense level up. To do this we used the Dark Voyeur perspective which is a framing device used to imply a character is being watched (or hunted) by another wicked character. This indicates their vulnerability to an unknown person this is because the audience are seeing someone (or something!) behind the protagonist, in the same shot, without them knowing he’s in danger.

We also made sure that our
