Walkthrough for Might and Magic VII: Playing Archer, Cleric and two Sorcerers

GENERAL NOTES
Unless you use the GrayFace patch: Do not use "ALWAYS RUN" mode: this slows melee fighting by 25% and ranged by 30%, even if standing still!
Use items to boost misc. skills: Disarm Trap, ID Item, and Alchemy. Only the highest item counts (no stacking)
Keep stat boosting items for Contests; do not sell immediately
Sell (and buy items and skills) with Merchant and Trader (not Duper) to maximize gold
Harmondale gives 15% more gold than Erathia/Tularean and 40% more than Avlee
A Trader adds to Merchant: 6.5% in Harmondale, 7.5% in Erathia/Tularean, and 9.3% in Avlee
Hire a Banker (cost is 1000 gp) to pick-up loot for an extra 10% net if you expect to collect more than 11k gp in gold
No need to get Expert or Master Learning; Novice level 1 (+10% xp's for monsters killed) is actually fine for the entire game
There are a huge number of xp's in the game! There are no Instructors in Harmondale; get in Tularean, Erathia, Tatalia or Nighon
Finalizing a quest with a Teacher or Instructor does not give extra xp's
The best early item is a ring, cloak or gauntlets of mana regeneration (give to Cleric) e.g. "of the Eclipse"
Next best item is "of Disarming" skill for safer disarming of locked chests!
Stores restock items every month. Check the re-stocking date by buying all the items and a message will appear
Keyboard: Use Arrow keys; strafe holding Shift+arrows or use "[ ]" keys; Fly using Page Up/Page Down, Home to land
TRAVELLING Map crossing time reductions by walking: Pathfinder -3 days, Tracker -2 days, Guide -1 day
Stables only: Horseman -2 days
Ships only: Navigator -3 days, Sailor -2 days, Pirate -2 days
Explorer: -1 day for all methods of travel

Prepare for Dragon hunting…
Hirelings Hire a Scholar for 500 gp! 500
Buff Well near Inn, Day of the Gods pedestal, and the pedestal of fire
resistance near the Dragon's Cave
Dragon Cave Cast Wizard Eye and Bless Archer, save and then enter cave
Cleric will be the main target so change armor as it gets broken!
First run: go counter clockwise and let the Dagon fight the Rats; run
all way around the edge of the cave and seek refuge beside the exit
in the corner, facing east.
Note that the Dragon will naturally drift counter clockwise which
leaves you safe to Save Game!
You cannot leave the dungeon once started (Dragon will be reset) so
save often in the cave
To take down the Dragon:
Technique 1: CCW around cave; turn-shoot-turn-run for 1/2 second-
repeat:
From the safe corner run around the edge of the perimeter counter
clockwise
The first opportunity to shoot will not be until you are at 11 o'clock (on
the mini-map) where the first "bump" is

Only shoot if the Dragon is NOT facing you, i.e. only shoot while he
is in transit, otherwise you will be hit. Turn quickly and shoot and then
turn back and keep running immediately!
The 2nd opportunity to shoot is counter clockwise up the larger
bump: turn very fast, shoot, turn very fast and run for 1/2 second, and
repeat
If you hit for damage you should retreat to the safe corner by the
exit, wait for the Dragon to rotate around and then save the game and
save often!
On the next sortie: repeat as above; from the "high" bump you
should be able to establish a rhythm of "turn-shoot-turn-run for 1/2
second-repeat" such that the dragon is always in transit when you
turn to shoot
Keep circling him and he will naturally move counter clockwise!
If you see him facing you, do not shoot! Turn and run for 1/2 second
then try again.
Retreat to the safe corner and save often i.e. after every successful
sortie!
Technique 2: Direct assault, then CCW around cave
From the safe corner run directly/slightly to the right of the dragon
and fire a couple of shots as you run past him. Keep running to the
north edge and then use the above technique by running around the
edge of the cave counter clockwise.
Then, run circles around him and establish a rhythm of "turn-shoot-
turn-run for 1/2 second-repeat" such that the dragon is always in
transit when you turn to shoot.
Retreat to the safe corner and save often!
Once fallen, multiple loot for an amulet, ring, belt or cloak of:
of the Eclipse (Mana regeneration) is the best item to get;
of Disarming skill, e.g. +21 or more is the next best item;
of ID Items skill, e.g. +23 or more is for convenience
Stop looting there!
Do NOT loot for anything else such as armor, weapons or black
potions otherwise the game is brokenSurprisingly you do not need good armor for the Sorcerers or anyone
else at this stage or for a long time
Use an Editor to roll-back your gold to the amount prior to

Buy skills The Learning skill is much cheaper here than Harmondale so buy if
have money! Meditation is a bit cheaper (780 gp vs 850 in
Harmondale Mind Guild, but not really needed now)
Buy any other skills, especially Perception if not yet done although
they are the same cost as in Harmondale
Join Guilds Join Spirit and Body Guilds (same cost as in Harmondale) 100
Hirelings Dismiss the Scholar, hire no one!

Good contests to get:
Deyja: ENDURANCE (drink tea)
Barrows: PERS/INT (fountain from Nighon)
Erathia: anything (Day of the Gods pedestal); SPEED and MIGHT
are good
Tatalia: ACCURACY, or whatever skill you have the most items for
(usually ACC it seems)
Avlee: do much later (tough to access); separate from all the other
contests as it requires 100 points (including buffs)
Tularean: not the same as Har.; not END or Barrows'; e.g. LUCK
Harmondale: got INT; MIGHT is also OK (+10 well)
Bracada: (7th contest) anything ; can get a Day of the Gods scroll
from the School of Sorcery's Book Store
South village Well gives +10 Might temporarily
Get Quest South village: Bartholomew Hum Q13 Q for MONK UPGRADE: Find
the lost meditation spot in the Barrow Downs/Stone City
Join Guilds Join Guilds: Water, Mind and Earth 150

bonus of +0, +1, etc before focusing on the next character
Acquire enough gold and buy Chain skill if not have already
Finalize Quest Inn: Butler 4k xp, gives MAIN QUEST (Q12): Talk to Dwarves in
Stone City in Barrow Downs to repair castle
Explore lands Mid-W: click on Signal Fire (#2 of 3)
Near SW corner (but not in the corner): chest
Chest on plateau across from south village
Very carefully fight Goblins guarding the bridge (easier if you sneak
across the south and cross the bridge from the east)
South: click on 3rd and final Signal Fire causing lots of Goblins to
appear in the SW area (fight later)
Optional: loot 1-2 chests guarded by a few Goblins in the SE corner
White Cliff
Caves (quest)
Cast Bless and enter. Immediately take a few steps backwards to the
cave's entrance to fight first three Trogolites. Carefully step forward
so that no more than three Trogolites attack at a time!
Clear the dungeon; get Arcomage deck in north
Find hidden area with three chests to the north of the north ledge

Note: Cannot fight Oozes (unless can do elemental damage)
Finalize Quest House by Stable: Darron Temper 750 gp, 2k xp (Q10)

Conclusion:
